The wiring harness from 84 to 91 has little in common. And no the computer from the 84 would not be a feasible swap.

With alot of research, and work anything is possible, just some times not to practical.

Try to get the entire wiring harness and all the related electronics.

No problems with the stock L69 H.O. cam. I swapped TPI onto the stock L69 in my Monte SS and it works fine. If I recall correctly, the H.O. cam is the same as the one used in the '85 TPI 305.

do yourslef a favor and buy a new Speed Density harness, dont waste your time with 12 yr old wiring on a new project, too many little things to go wrong let alone fragile connectors etc, corrdoed wire

Their is lots of information here on swapping to TPI applications do a search and i believe also a few tech articles on it, its nothing too bad just takes a liitle planning and forethought

Best guess for the intitial startup , u would want to use the factory prom which would most closely match to the engine you r using.........my best guess would seem to be any of the 305 auto applications from 90-92 since your r going to use the 91 style SD system?

Anyone here is willing to ask questions, but make sure your not rehashing the same question 10 times , so search before u post and there is a ton of information on proms bth here and a dyi-efi as well

If u dont have them already get the complete GM wiring diagrams for your yr and model car and the one from which u are swaping the stuff from (will be priceless)

Good luck

i have the complete wiring harness and everything from the 91. i know what im talking about. i did my research and i have everything i need to swap. im just asking that because i have a 91 tpi setup computer harness everythign from a 91 tpi car, will my stock cams from a 84 305 ho be compatible. i am asking because i know that they are different fromt he ones that came stock on a 91 tpi car. my question is that do i need to get the 91 cams, or will my 84 cams be fine. i was just wondering if the computer is programmed for the stock 91 cams or if it doesnt matter what cam im using, and the computer just adjusts off sensors

It will need reprogramed to work best, but it will run with your stock 84 camshaft.

Are you using the stock 84 fuel tank or can you get the 91 tank and fuel lines?

seems to me that an 84 wouldent have a roller cam like the 91 so why would you want to use it? especally when you can get a zz4 on e bay for a cool c notethat will be better than both those cams

thanks for checking responding. yeah i hope i have everything i need. just a question, im probably going to be putting on headers as well. how much would it be to get a custom chip burned for my car? one that would take into account my cam and the headers. i know i have heard that the map system needs new chips for changes like that. how much do they go for and does anyone reccomend a place? i also need to get the vats disabled.

For what it's worth, there is no difference in the VE maps between the manual and auto 305TPI calibrations even though the camshafts are different between the manual and auto TPI 5.0L motors... (something that always kinda bothered me, but anyways)

And as I mentioned in a previous reply, I run SD TPI on my Monte Carlo SS with the stock 305 H.O. camshaft... no problems with that cam. It's very similar to the 85 TPI 5.0L camshaft - just guessing it might even have been recycled from the 305 H.O. for the 1985 TPI MY.
