romultoar tuning methods

After what I understand the romulator/tunercat combo dont show in what cell your engine is working in ( like for exampel the halltech do ). Does that mean you have to run both a scanner software and tunercat, 2 laptops? And if that is the case, it must also mean that realtime tuning of the car in other circumstances then idle must be done with 2 persons. One driving, one check the scanner software, and then go that area in tunercat and change the value?

Have I understand this correct?

Devilfish,
Yes you will need scanner software running as well. I just purchased a romulator. Should be here today(saturday).
I also loaded up Win98se on my laptop. I am going to try and run both Diacom and RT tuner at the same time on one laptop. Splitting the windows so I can see both or Min/Max each one.

Grumpy posted to a few questions I listed about being able to utilize one laptop.

Yes you may need 2 peeps or just record with the scanner software for 5 min( Say low speed easy load driving) then pull over check you recording and adjust RT tuner. then drive again and check. Repeat the process with different varibles. Heavy loads, higher RPM, etc..

I am running a big cammed stick shift car so my issues have been smothing out idle to 2000 RPM.

Data logg.
Or get to where you can datalog some large files, and the sit down to analyse what's going on.

When using lockers, I log about 20 mins at a time over a given set of routes looking for particular areas.

ie don't try to do the whole VE table in 5 mins of driving. So say under 2K at light loads, and hammer on that, then mild range with a 3K RPM ceiling.

Again, take notes, so as to be able to see trends.

And if you want to save wear and tear on the car, you can replay the conditions on an ecm bench, and scan thru you changes ahead of time to see what changes so what. So you don't wind up guessing about if at some point the injectors are getting erratic or guessing about what you think might be happening. But that's just if your really into wanting to have things CORRECT.

- Idle I do in real time (TC) + Autoxray connected to ALDL.

- Otherwise datalogging, analyse, makes a new bin and load it into the romulator. I dont burn any PROMS anymore with everychange. I Have 1 PROM with me in the car that "works" IF the romulator "dumps" me.........

I will try to Use the USB for ECM852/TC soon.........then have both TC and ECM852 run at the same time..........

But I dont do changes and drive at the same time....

im not really to into the data logging i just watch the boost gauge keep an eye on my WB and pay attention to the road. i dont try to tune when im under WOT or anything typically i drive monitor and make changes when the conditions become good enought to do so. the best thing is to find a good driver that will do everything you say and then have him drive. but finmding a good driver is a pita.

Yup I think finding someone else to drive (that will do what you say) is the best idea. Someone that wouldnt mind driving around the block a few times @ certain rpm's. I'm going to have my uncle drive my car while I log data and make changes from the pass seat.
