Newbie question

Hi guys, I have actually read all the stickys and done a search perhaps my answer is buried in a post somewhere I'm not sure.

Here it is.

How would I read the bin from my ecm to edit/run with the romulator. I understand how this all works except that one important part. Where to you get the .bin to start with. I have ordered everything but haven't got it in hand yet.

You just read your current eprom with a "burner" like the Pocket Programmer.

Remember, the romulator is just a "tuning aid" to help fine tune your programming "on the fly". Once you have fine tuned it, you still need to permanetly reprogram the eprom by "burning" it with a programmer, like the Pocket Programmer.

Thanks for the info. I ordered all the equiptment including the programmer, and the romulator. I figured the learning curve might get a little straighter for me if I coul d make changes with the romulator. Get satisifed and then mke the changes permamnent.

If I gathered one thing from all this reading, it was that I need to make small changes first, probably for a month or two and reallyget a good grip on what I am doing before I make any big changes.

I figure I am kinda privelaged, getting to listen in on all your discussions. Lots of indirect knowledge here too

**edit**
Ok, I get it now I was just confused. I had figured that the memcal was not able to fit in the programmer/reader.

I started about 2 months ago with tuner cat. since i did numerous mods B4 the tuning my first scan showed somewhat/significantly rich. So the VE table #1 was where I started leaning down. I got that pretty close. Next I worked on a stumble that came with the mods. that was fixed with more pump shot in that table. took a few burns(5) to achieve improvement there. then came a dyno run that showed lean in PE and enrichened a bit to put it around 11.5 to 12/1. now pretty close but with cool temps here in wisconsin showing lean accrross the board from a week ago. maybe run a fall/spring chip and another for summer use. Mine is a SD system. Getting better every week and still a lot to learn.

Ronny, on the summer/winter chip. I don't think your supposed to have to do that.
GM didn't. Check these posts out.

my issue today is my/the XRam with single plane manifold with plenum on top with dual TBI's . Temps are 40's F and dam cold. anyway with the ice cold plemum and cool(temp) single plane I believe l I am getting little atomization occuring and fuel condensation/puddling and rough running resulting on start up. unless I run motor for 5 minutes and then let idle or better yet stop and let the intake /plenum get heat soaked, symptoms are relieved my adding 454 injectors does not help. I think I need a lot more gas on start up(retune for cold start) these cool fall mornings than I would ever need mid summer. GM had heat riser I do not have one. So I believe the fall eprom may be a good idea?

I think Grumpy likes Crossfires. Try a new post. Or maybe he'll see this.
From carb experience, that type of intake needs lots of choke. A different ECM might help. I don't know if yours looks at IAT. Or you sit and let it warm up like the carb guys do.

i need to change the cold start up tables(choke). this is first cold temps in wisand first fall with XRam. letting it idle does not help much as the 02 sensor goes closed loop quickly and enrichment is gone leaving a cold plenum and intake. what works is driving 3 miles and stop and let idle or turn off car(gas up). heat rises(i think) and warms up the intake/plenum. also with bored TB's the intake air(cold) is more than i need on start up. my best guess.
