B&M Megashifter Relay (To buy or not to buy)

Bought the B&M Megashifter... and they say that I have to buy a relay from radio shack that reconnects the circuit which:

With the factory shifter the orange and black wires are switched together in the Neutral and Park positions. This circuit locks out the converter clutch, and changes the idle speed.

Basically if I don't get the relay, the computer is going to think I'm in gear all the time... and when I actually DO shift into gear.... what happens?

Is this something I can just tune for in the my chip and call it good rather than go HOPE radio shack has the part?

Thanks Guys!

they had the part on the shelf 2 years ago when i put mine in. i bought two just in case.

i actually made my own harness though so i wouldn't have to cut up the factory piece just in case. this of course was the most time consuming.

The engine may stall when placed into drive. I'd say to try it and see how bad it is. If there is a stalling problem then do the relay install.

FWIW, I ran without the relay for a long time and it didn't matter except in my mind. I couldn't mentally deal with the fact that the ECM didn't know I was in Park vs. Drive so I installed the relay.

My engine stalls if I put it in drive as it sits now... unless I let it idle for about 30seconds (And this is warm!)

Thanks guys, I went ahead and installed the relay. It was easy.

I don't have the P/N wire hooked to anything and don't have any problems since I "downgraded" back to factory a/c delco ingition module and coil.
