Help a 100% Newb

I know computers VERY well, and I LOVE cars, So why not combine the two..

However I have no intentions of programming my own chip, all I want is to be able to monitor my cars systems, and maybe play with some settings. Like someone before me mentioned the Fast and Furious, altho a dumb movie the laptop monitoring the manifold pressure was pretty nice. Anyone who can point me to a website that I can read about the misc software/hardware that is required to read sensors and such, would be great appreated.

Thanks

I read that, and all I could find was programming info. Altho knowledge is nice, not quite what I'm looking for.

Anyone have info on.. lets say If I can hook a sensor up to my laptop so i can monitor engine temp for example??

what kind of induction do you have TPI? TBI? Carb?

for TPI, check out moates.net

for TBI check out. http://w1.601.telia.com/~u60113744/s...dl/winaldl.htm

As far as software goes: Craig Moates served me well for a year or so.

After some computer problems, I got EASE. Its the best program I have ever used or seen. It NEVER fails to connect, always stays connected, runs in windows, and does about a MILLION thing to make graphing, comparing, etc all a snap.

But that is my opinion.

There are a bunch of sensors connected to the ECM. The easiest method to do what you want is to monitor these existing sensors via the ALDL line.

Search for scan software (Moates and WinALDL) along with just ALDL. This stuff runs on a laptop and has the ability to display the sensor information as read by the ECM.

Just to warn you, when you get ALDL data acquisition going and see how far off spark and fueling are (most likely), you'll want to start burning your own chips.

Hi my name is Nektar and I am a BurnAholic.

Seriously though...I use Moates software and it works great. Just build or pickup an ALDL to Serial adapter and you'll have all the sensor information you can handle and then some....

After looking you might want to start touching!

Unless you want to fix the shortfalls of the stock programming, why even look at the data from the sensors?
