Crikey, Digger, your description's crook

I reckon you've got yours and Buckley's of getting a "$42 bin"

A bin is a binary file, the code that gets burnt onto an EPROM. Bins have BCC's (broadcast codes- eg AMXY0662) to describe them individually, and they tend to be grouped according to mask ID. I don't know what a $42 is, but this usually refers to the mask ID- the "style" of the BCC family you want to work with.

To edit a BIN, you usually use an editor (like Tunerpro) and the editor needs an ECU file (freeware templates), or you can use a hex editor and a code hack (because you're a masochist or a propellor head) or a commercial product like Tunercat that uses .TDF "definition files".

So what sort of "$42 bin" are you looking for- what car is it out of, model engine, trans, year, etc?

I tried www.gmpcm.com but their site was down hopfuly it will be up later today or soon, but if not is there any where else i can obtain the following.
Allow me to be more descriptive from the first post. I am geting into RT Tuning for ECM/PCM's from comodore/camira typicaly the 808model which will be fited to other vehicles and test muels for engine and various performance set-ups i work with.
At this stage i have not purchased any software but have 30day trils of various ones including TunerCAT, most of these trial software packages come with a type $42 definition file, to decrpt the eprom images. Thus i will evalute with $42 binary from any vehicle wich uses the $42 decryption. I plan to purchase 1 or more of the software as im acustomed to using the beter sections of each to arrive at my final product.
Thus i do not care what vehicle the eprom image is from but preferable a manuale and automative variant. These .bin files used to be quite comon on the GMECM forums ftp, but alas it has crashed again and so i can not contact any1 from it.
If any1 has the .bin files that are from the type$42 ecm/pcm's could u please get in contact with me. thanks

Ahh, now I understand- you want a .BIN from a $42 mask ID so that you can use a trial .TDF.

This is probably not a good idea, because then you'd have to find a wiring diagram that suited the ECM that ran the $42 code, and then you'd have to repin your '808 to suit. Maybe even the hardware is totally different to the '808 (I'd guess this could be the case) and it won't go at all. I assume you've lost interest by now!

You need a $5d mask ID bin and ecu to work with an '808, not a $42.

It's easy to get Holden BIN's from here if you ask nicely- they're on a request basis only.

I have the odd 4, 6 and 8 cylinder memcal. More usefully, I have an .ECU which you can use with Mangus's excellent Tunerpro freeware.

PM me with your details and I'll send you an ECU and suitable BIN.

Actually, the site is up, but I believe your IP fell within a broad IP range that the firewall had blocked due to abuse issues. We have since modified that firewall rule to allow legitimate IP's through.
If you have any further connection problems, feel free to contact us via email.

We currently have 72 "authenticated" stock $42 binary files available for download in our file download database.

Of the thousand or so files that were available on the DIY ftp site, less than 600 passed our authentication system software. The rest were either duplicates, corrupted files, or modified in some way.

Our binary file database system provides information that is typically not available on an ftp site such as description, transmission, gear ratio, part number, scan id, platform, emissions, etc,.
Selecting the best/correct starting binary for your custom code is very important, so this type of information is can be quite valuable.

We have also recently released our "42.pcm" definition file. The 42.pcm definition is a complete map of the $42 binary, and thus it contains over 400 items.

You can download the latest Evaluation Edition of GMPCM for free, and look the 42.pcm file over if you wish. It should provide a fairly good comparison of the difference between a "complete" definition and a limited definition. The 5D.pcm file is available for download, if that is the one you actually need.

We also have 12 authenticated $5D binary files. The binaries are free to download for any GMPCM discussion forum member. The forum membership is also free, and we usually don't force you to post on our forum, unless your a tall brunette single female betw...never mind. :-)

The authentication software was custom developed by our staff. It uses algorithms to determine factors such as check sum, code pattern comparison to known control examples, etc.
Although it takes about 2 hours to process 500 files, it is pretty good considering the alternatives..

thanks,
ok let me clear up some confusion, i do not plan to burn any chips as part of my evaluation, im only looking at interface and options etc. yes i no i need a $5d mask for the '808 but to evaluate with such a code i would need to spend $40 and purchase the tunercat ecu file, which is wasted money considering it comes with a free $42 file and as im not burning anything i dont need to have files to suit my ECM.
Thanks GMPCM i was able to access ur site and can get .bin files for the $42 with descriptions of whether it is a manual or auto.
Please note if i could get tuner definiton files for Tunerpro, Tunercat and GMPCM to suit the $5D then i would glady evalute wi\hich of these i will buy, but unfortunatly i have to purchase it from CATS. And a trial TDF with limited info is not of any use to me.

if any1 has had experiance with all three of these and would like to shed some light please do.
thanks in advance.

I guess I should re-emphasis the fact that we have the definition for the $5D available for download on our website. The file is called "5D.pcm", here is a direct link :
5d.pcm

You can look the file over simply by installing the Evaluation Edition of GMPCM, opening the 5d.pcm file, and then importing one of the 12 $5D binaries available for download on our website.

Hope this helps...

cool

I leanrned of quite a few new .bin sites for comparison and stock files to base things from (will compare to my own sourced authenticated files however) but its nice to know that fledgling we may be we continue to grow
