ALDL Extention?

Sup everyone? Does anyone see a problem with extending an ALDL datalog cable? Mine is a bit short and I want to simply splice and extend using more length of wire.

Not a problemo. Just use the normal care involved with ecm wiring. Solder the joints, and heatshrink.

Yep, it can be long alright. I had everything from 100ft of lamp cord to 75 feet of ribbon cable wire, and never had an issue. You can just get or make a real long serial cable also, that signal is even more robust...

Interesting image that this conjures up . Was this years ago, when your only computer was a desk top?

Did you tack the 75 footer onto the 100 footer so you could get into third gear LOL?

John

PS. Maybe that's what started you thinking about that currently-stalled killer logging project.

Thats hilarious. I can see the neighborhood kids pointing... "hey guys, check out that remote control car!"

Yeah, it was pretty funny. Desktop only, wire going from in the house out through a window, down the sidewaly to the driveway. Never tried it with the car moving though.

That was my first ALDL interface build. Used a silver trace pen.

When I got it working, it was like 3am, I was excited and barefoot. Running back and forth inside & out, and ended up catching my foot on something and breaking the crap out of my second-smallest toe. Still aches occasionally, reminding me of this experience.
