Help me look BEFORE I leap

OK - I'm scouting everything I can here. I downloaded the free TunerPro software. I downloaded JPrevosts ecu file from same site. I'm wanting to see what I'm going to see IF I decide to try this on my own. And I'm lost. My guess is:

the ecu file (in idiot terms) defines all the 'boxes' that the data from the chip fits into, and that the bin file is the data for these 'boxes'

Is this correct? If so, then I'm missing the bin file. I would have to buy the programmer, read my chip, and thus I have the bin, right?

If so, then I see bin files at
ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/pub/gmecm/bin_lib/

- a page full of folders with what appears to be different ECM #'s

So - can I simply download a bin from one of the the 8746 folders (anything will do for a demo), load it into TunerPro with the ecu, and see an example of what/how the programming software works - correct?

And, if so, then these bin files that I see at ftp.diy-efi.org are what others have created or 'tuned' to make their cars run better - correct?

And in the real world, when I get a programmer & read my own chip, I'll have MY data. Then I would assume that the best place to start is reading MY data from MY stock original chip, and start modifying that to make MY car run better given the mods I did - and I modify this data using the TunerPro software and JPrevost's ecu file, based upon the readings gathered from the WinALDL data that I gather on my laptop as I drive (or attempt to).

Did I get the concept yet?

Yup, your on track. There may be a 'best' starting bin for your application, however I'm not up on TBI so I don't know what to look for. Until someone can recommend a good starting bin, I would just toy around with this one: ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/pub/gmecm/bin_...3/axks1108.bin
