TBI or TPI Or what
ok I have a question and I know This should be in the different Forum but the DIY PROM board See things that the other boards dont So move if ya have to but I Would like answers form Here because YOU ROCK.
would like some opinions I have a tune Port so this isn't for me it is for my brother. He has a 1984 Trans Am with a LG4 Carbed engine and he wants to go Fuel Injection. I was going to pick up a Tpi System for him but he would have to change heads since the only year a non vortec Tpi manifold was made was in 1985 ( which I Have
) So he dosen't want to change heads.
I have recently come across a Throttle Body Injection set up for $200.00 Comes with Intake Manifold, Distributor, TB, Injectors,All Sensors, Stock Wiring Harness, and a 1227747 ECM.
I was wondering What the differencs between this system and the TB 91-92 Camaros are I know the Ecm is different but what about the hardware like Distributor or the Throttle Body.
Also If he decieds to do this can I run a Electric inline Holley fuel Pump and be suficient or should I just Drop the tank and put in a fuel Pump. and would the 747 Ecm be ok.
What do You think the Easiest, Or Best Way to go Would Be.

Holley doesn't make an decent EFI pump IMO. I used a Mallory, for my TBI conversion. Might must swap in an EFI gas tank, so you have the right baffling. An EFI conversion on a carb host car means you have to have over a 1/4 tank of gas or suffer intermittent stalling at stop signs when low on gas.

Also Is there any where to get a TPI lower manifold that will work on non vortec heads (my tpi is a 85 and this is the only year they made it to fit non vortec heads if I am correct.)

200 complete seems fair.
I gave up trying to keep straight on all the intake patterns, maybe someone else is up on them.

You can drill an early manifold to fit 87+ heads, and vice versa.
Hope this helps so you don't limit yourself to specific years.

Um, GM never made a vortec TPI manifold. So they are all NON vortec manifolds, made for stock style 23º Heads.

Correct, just the 4 holes in the center.
I've made an '87+ manifold fit old heads, and made new heads fit old manifolds.
Easy. Just need a drill, and drill bit the size of the hole in the manifold. Then just start drilling and pull the bit the direction you need to go. Just test fit before you lay the silicone!

I can vouch for the less than a 1/4 tank of gas syndrome. Any less and I can't hit the twisties. Other than that it works fine with an external pump. I'm using one off of a 89 ford truck with no problems.
