7749 Conversion burning BIN help!
Bare with me, I am very green with this. To start, I have almost the exact same set up as the car in the following link:
http://www.speedtoys.com/~bort62/7749/Main.htm
and got some great information.
I have all the hardware for the conversion but I have questions on how to burn a base line BIN under the Links and Resources section in the above link. My friend has the pocket programmer 2 and is going to help me burn the BIN to start with.
First of all, how do we burn the "Our Final, Running Bin" with the pocket programmer 2 with a SST 27SF512 chip or should I use the 29c256 chip?
Secondly, why is the $58 Bin so much of a larger file than the "Our Final, Running Bin"?
Third question, after we get the car running with the BIN, my friend suggests buying the following:
A laptop with a serial port and a USB port
C.A.T.S. Engine Tuner www.tunercat.com/tnr_desc/do_tc.html and order the RT
Tuner or regular Tuner. I use RT Tuner Thats what the box that hooks to my
computer is. The regular tuner is the software only. It is only a bin
editor. The box on the RT Tuner replaces the prom with a flashable prom and
will accept live updates as you edit the bin. I would suggest the RT Tuner.
A data cable from AKM Cables www.akmcables.com order the first cable on the
order form. Download www.ttspowersystems.com/adapt_cable.htm to test the
cable after you hook it to your laptop.
TTS Datamaster www.ttspowersystems.com/dm_software.htm download dm32xTT and
purchase it.
A Pocket Programmer 2. www.xtronics.com/memory/EPROM.htm
Is this overkill or do you suggest another hardware/software combo?
thanks for your time and I know I will have numerous other questions,
Mark

I would start off with the 29c256 chip, just make sure in your Pocket Programmer 2 software to set the start address at 04000 for the 16kb $58 bin.
I'am not to sure what to say about your second question other then it should be a 16kb bin.
Your friend sound like he's got you on the right track with what to buy for hardware and software the only thing if you want to save some money is to make your own data cable.

Tony,
thank you for the info, but for your second response, have you opened the link and clicked on the $58 BIN and "Our Final Running BIN"? The final running bin is 16kb in size. The $58 Bin has two pieces of info in a zip file. One appears to be the true GM Bin, AYBN.bin and the other appears to be GM Data of some sort, called AYBN_hac.src.
Can you take a look at this and let me know your thoughts?
thank you,
Mark

The hac.src is a "hack" file -- basically a text file of the actual code, with comments added. You can read it with a text editor.
Sometimes, if everything is formatted correctly, a hack can be recompiled into an executable bin file.
For burning your base cal, you just need the bin file, but reading the hack may be enlightening. (it may seem like a foreign language at first, but it'll start to make sense after awhile).
Reading some of the threads about "source code" will shed more light on the subject.

I understand completely. Do you have the specific instructions on how to burn the 16kb bin with a Pocket Programmer 2? I am at the mercy of my friend, so I would like to go over there with the step by step instructions on how to burn the 16kb bin on a 29c256 chip. He burns a bin that is equal to 256 so is unsure. When my burner and laptop come in, I can spend much needed time cutting my teeth.
thank you once again,

One other editing software that wasn't mention thats pretty important for $58 tunning is Bill Calcagno's Promgrammer Ver1.0.3. you can get it here http://www.sytyauthority.net/ and to get the full version you'll need to register it for $10.

Re: 7749 Conversion burning BIN help!
Well guys I am back.......after running my current bin file for 13 years, I have had no issues. I did change out the injectors to, if I remember correctly, some new Ford 30lbs injectors.
Which brings me to today.....I had the transmission rebuilt around the same time I did the 7749 swap. The tranny seemed very strong but was shifting right below the rev limiter, which I lived with for 13 years. 21k hard miles later, I began loosing 2-3 gear shift.
I did some research online and ended up sending my tranny to Jeff at Trutech. He was nothing but knowledge, and built a very nice transmission. He found a bunch of miss matched parts and said the only reason the transmission made it 21k was the nice clutches and plates.
Which brings me to my current issue. If I go wide open throttle, I hit the rev limiter at or around 53-5400 RPM's. The transmission is very close to shifting around that point, but doesn't the majority of the time.
I no longer have any of my old hardware or software. I have a 16kb BIN burned on a 512 chip. Can the rev limit be raised in my bin to say 5900? If so, can you tell me what I need to buy to make it happen?
Any help you can provide, I would be very grateful!
