First start of zz4 cam 305

Hey - I was hoping to get some advice.

I just started the motor today on a slightly modified 6e code (milder spark table) and had some questions.

I saw that the BLM cell was listed but I am unsure of how this number points me to a specific value to change in one of the tables.

I got it to idle pretty well and set the timing but it indicated that it was running lean -- dont know if it was or not though because the whole log was open loop idle.

I punched the throttle open a few times and I guess Ill have to work on open loop awile.

I also notice that my O2 mv went wayy low on the latter part of the log. no noticeable change in idle quality though.

I can email the log to anyone who wants to help but I would much prefer to just post it here. To bad there is no option to.

You said -->the whole log was open loop idle.
The ecm will not be making any changes until it is in closed loop.
I would suspect all the info for blm is at 128 from an open loop idle scan.
To get started wait for closed loop and do a scan and also verify your fuel pump isn't dropping pressure at wot. Then either change your fuel pressure or injector constant to get your blm numbers close.

Why when you can just rework the VE tables to do this? I mean why fudge the injector constant or why use any psi other than what your injectors are rated for....

Yea I agree -- I thought the whole point of tuning was to change the tables so that the tune is good everywhere.

And I havent even been out of the garage yet -- why would I test at WOT?

And even if I still wait to get to closed loop arent there still corrections I would have to make to open loop tables to get it to start well and perform well before the car is warm?

I dont think I have VE tables -- I am running 6e. I think VE tables are in the SD codes.

The wot test is to ensure your fuel system is operating properly.
Changing the pressure / injector constants will get a maf vehicle with svo 24# injectors and adjustable fuel pressure regulator to a basic tune.

My fuel system is fine -- and what do 24# injectors have to do with anything. I am running the stock 19's.

Anyway I assume that once I reach closed loop the tables that define it would also define open loop and therefore I should let the car tell me which way to go by changing things after Ive seen the INT and BLM when the car reaches closed loop.

well I actually have the car registered now and im still working on the tune. It looks like closed loop its really lean at idle then rich under load from there up to 60 g/sec (cruising speeds). Is this consistent with any other experience out there with switching from a peanut cam to a much larger cam profile? The maf table is gonna be really flat at the low voltage range.

anyway just observing changes Ive made and I thought id share.

btw this is 6e code in a zz4 cammed 305.

I was rich at idle only using a 6e arap bin. According to the stock O2.

I think I understand how to tune now. I can look at the logs and see what the integrator is saying at a specific MAF voltage. Take that info and adjust MAF table at that location to affect the change. I am still not sure how Im going to find the correct sparc values though.
