do i need to get my prom burned?

I was told after putting a cat back exhaust on my 305 tbi that i need to get my prom burned for it because it will make it run lean, is this true? This tbi setup is becoming a real nightmare...

A reworked chip will allow you to get the most power out of it, but I don't see a need to if the catback is the only modification that has been done.
Just my

ok sorry for not being clearer, what im really worried about is that i was told i can burn a piston from it running too lean, JUST from a cat back exhaust. is THAT true?

Yeah, stock almost all of the TBI burns are lean where they shouldn't be and rich where they shouldn't be. Example; too lean from lack of AE when you do an open element install, yes, that's all it takes to make it lean (not dangerously lean). A cat-back burning a valve, hmm... stock the calibrations do a good job of putting out the cats with AFRs in the 11's. I doubt you'll have any problem burning a piston/valve/ or anything. You COULD if it's an original or cheap cat, burn the cat out by running an AFR that overheats the cat. This can be done if you do bolt-ons but it should take more than just a cat-back to do this!

hang on a second I think you misunderstood my post in your other thread, I said it would effect your tip in a bit. I said it WOULD NOT be "burn a valve lean" but worse case senario maybe just cause a lean bog or pop down low.

I wouldnt loose any sleep over it at the moment...

As for the tip-in, the stock code is set up to double the ammount of AE if there is enough throttle opening. This is most likely to help emmisions, but it means that the AE can be too lean at moderate throttle openings. Coversely, itll cause a massive bog when you do get the AE tuned in.
