1st PROM mod you did, what was it?

So how did you get started, what was the first thing you changed? Did you do it one change at a time or more?
What would you recommend I changed first?
Thx.

Injector constant or equivelant so you lie to your engine as little as humanly possibly.

For the rest, start reading the Prom Tuning sticky up top and go from there

later

Read the sticky but I was just wondering what other ppl have done.
I even bought I book about EFI to educate myself but there's no replacement for hands on experience and what better bunch of ppl with this kind of experience than what we have here on 3rdGen?!
Thanks for your advise though.

My first PROM mod was to lower the fan enable temperatures. Brute forced locations from the bin and tried them until I hit the right ones. Second mod was changing the speed limiter. Again, brute forced them from the bin and tried them until I found the right locations.

Hehe, I can just picture the testing of the speed limiter on a car.

VATS disable is a common one.
My first thing was to just get one burned correctly, a big step for many.

Kind of depends if you're doing it for a stock engine or modified engine, and MAF or MAP.

For me, it was pretty much this order:

These first three in a group...
Injector constant
Fan temp turn on/off temps
Lower Tq converter lock up speed

Fuel vs. RPM for WOT
AF ratio in highway mode

I pretty much stick to those for my weekly tunes. When I made my cam swap, I mapped out my MAF voltages at observed speeds/loads vs. TPS/etc and rebuilt my 6 MAF tables. The tinkering has never stopped in almost two years of owning burning equipment.

on my first burn the things i did was,
1, change the magnetic speed sensor bit
2, change the VSS gear ratio
3, disable EGR
4, lower fan on & off temps
5, raise idle speed vs temp
6, raise forced TCC lockup speed
7, start working on getting hiway mode to come on.

before i even got the stuff to burn with, i did a lot of reading, all of the stickies regarding the 730 ECM & 8D, & probably close to half if not more of the threads posted here in DIY prom burning.

i was lucky in that others had been there & done that. there have been huge advances in prom burning. it is much easier to lean the basics now than it was even 2 years ago.
those who did it in the early days & were then willing to share what they knew with the rest were unbelievably generous with their knowledge. thanks to all of them, you guys rock

My FIRST EPROM was a copy of the one in my ECM.

Made a copy and installed it in the ECM to verify I could make one that would work.

Hehehe, that's what I was thinking about too. Just burn another copy to see if everything works OK and then move on to the next step.
I know it's not a mod but at least it will give me a boost to start modding.
