WB and acceleration meters ( Gtech ).

As I live in Sweden we dont have good accses to dragstrips or dynos. Therefore I wounder if the use of a WB and Gtech RR could help me do my own WOT tuning? The use of Gtech is NOT to get accurate 1/4 times, instead I whas thinking of using it as a before/after test tool. With those tools you should be abel to get to the point where more or less timing/fuel dont get faster trap speeds, and then you got a good base.
I have dynotime late this june ( thats how long time we have to wait overe here ). I would like to get the WOT in the ballpark before then, so I just need to make final adjusments on the dyno.

Bad ide?

Best regards

Devil...

For tuning WOT, whether it be fuel or spark, you need something that can be easily repeated so you have something to measure against....

Say like timing from 30-80 or 30-70 to avoid wheelspin issues that seem to plague tpi cars :-)

Using the g-tech the same way on the same road in the same weather conditions will work as well for you as a dragstrip will, if u take the pains to make it easily repeatable.

U seem like you are on the right track though :-)

Proceed slowly, make changes and take notes. Whatever you end up using, whether it be g-tech, or timing xxx mph - xxx mph, just make sure you can duplicate it the same each time.

Thanks for the reply..

Yes my biggest consern is wheelspin. A tought is to make rolling starts, from 20mp/h, then WOT. Gtech will not like that you start from anything then zero g it will give false times, i know that. But at least I got the "same" error every time and no wheel spin.

G-Techs, and Chassis Dynos are tuning tools. They are for noting changes, and how a car reacts to them. With the G-Tech RR you can do 60', 1/8m, 1,000', and 1/4m passes. It only makes sense, IMO, to work on one area at a time with a G-Tech. Why do all the wear and tear of pull passes, trying to get all the data possible, when you can work on each area?.

Having built my own in-car timer, run the old G-Tech, and now a G-Tech RR, they've all paid for themselves in time, energy, and fuel saved, IMO.

Try a keep the gtech runs similar (out side temp, engine up temp).

for a g-teh to work well mnark off a strip of pavement make sure its smooth with minimal grade. smooth being the key word. accelerometers get less accurate the rougher the surface.

I love my G-tech RR. THe software is killer. It's very easy to see any gains, the entire run can be reviewed and plotted directly against another run. Things like shift point, launch RPM and tuning changes become very clear, fast. The Gtech RR will reduce WOT tuning time by 1/3.

.... look at this screen shot
