Stock Prom EGR Question????? Please help & Read
Hey guys, I installed a ZZ4 motor in my 1989 GTA about two years ago. I removed the catalytic converter (i do not have headers yet) I removed my smog pump and all other smog related equipment, I installed a Walbro 255 LPH fuel pump, acell 24lb injectors, Holley adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and a ram air setup (K&N). Now here is the problem, The ZZ4 motor does not have EGR passages so I purchased a EGR block off plate from T.P.I.S. I had the timing on the car set at 10 degrees BTDC, and the car pinged like crazy on accelaration. So I dropped the timing to 7 degrees BTDC. (I always use premium gas also) I notice a loss of power and the pinging is still there. It is slightly better, but still bad. What I want to know is is there any way to get my stock prom sent somewhere that they can remove EGR from it?? Then I can bump my timing back up etc. I am not mooching, etc, I am willing to pay, or would like to find out where I can send my prom to have this done. So I can advance the timing again, and get some more power. Right now I am afraid to lay into the car because of the pinging. I need some expert help, that is why I am here
Please help, or tell me what I can do. Sorry for the long post, this is just driving me crazy, and I just want to get it right. Thanks in advance guys!!
Take care
Mike

just turning off the EGR won't fix what you want it to. there is more to it than that. you really need to do it yourself to get a good chip.
i have seen what is done to some of those "performance chips",
over $300.00 just to turn off VATS & dump more fuel into it only for it to run worse than what it did with the stock chip, what a joke.
for what a chip would cost you, you could buy the stuff to burn your own & have something the motor really likes, plus some extra cash in your pocket.
read through the stickies up at the top of this board, once you learn how & what all you can change, i think that is the way you'll want to go.
