Guys, anyone know where I can get female connector ends for the 7730 harness ECM connectors?

If I go ahead with the Caddy ECM swap, what I want to do is build an intermediate adapter harness to go between the 7730 harness and the 2240 ECM rather than repin the 7730 harness connectors. I could then temporarily hookup the system with the 2240 ECM and then get it to at least startup and run before I make any "permanent" mods to the 7730 harness.

 

I don't think they make seperate connectors for the female side. Check out

on page 185 of the PDF. It is a micro pack header connector. This is the Delphi catalog and the only female side is a solder on to a board like on the 7730 ecm.

What exactly are you trying to do with the cadi computer? Is it better then the 7730?

sorry just read the previous post. SEFI sounds awesome! I'll be following to see if it works but I still have to get my carb converted to TPI 7730 first.

 

Unless you can figure out a sequential carburetion system...

 

Here is an exerp from a document I found a while ago on DIY-EFI.

"Some GM part numbers:
If you're building/repairing a harness for the 1227165/727/730/749/808/747 ecms, you'll need 12047946 and 12045575.
For 3 connector ECMs you'll also want 12089591.
These are "car side" ECM connectors.
Crimp terminals for the above are 12089660.

The connector inside a 747/808/148 ECM is Packard #12020756. The yellow connector on a 730/749 is 12048046
For a late model pickup (2 32 pin connectors, dark blue/dark red), the harness ends are:
12110113 Dr Red
12110115 Dr Blue
The mating parts inside the ECM are:
12129340 Dr Red
12119342 Dr Blue

I never investigated them completely myself to confirm they were correct.

 

You can get a female connector from the ecm itself. Simply desolder the connectors at the rear of a junk computer, solder up your wires/connectors to the scavanged ecm connectors, and go.

Seems like the mating connectors are all mounted on the PWB. Doesn't really help me much...

Maybe repinning the 7730 isn't so bad...

 

You can just solder the wires directly and mount the connectors in a small project enclosure to keep things neat, running the wires out teh rear of the enclosure.

I bought 100 pcs of the 12089660 connector pins. I had hoped that one of the crimping pliers that I had would work with them but turns out that they don't. Anybody have a tool recomendation? I know they aren't cheap, and I don't need anything real fancy, just a decent one for DIY use.

 

I tried several different tools (not anything designed specifically to do these)but never found anything to really make me feel good about the connection.
I ended up using a small pair of needle nose pliers to bend over the retainers (3 each side) to hold the wire then used a std crimp tool to do the wire connection.
After that I put a dab of solder on each where the wire connects.
Time consuming, but never had a loose wire problem.

 

I just bought a 50 pack for $5.75 + usps first class from Mouser Electronics online. Painless had the tool number but I had one already. Anybody have the pin removal tool number or a method?

I have one and it works great, especially for only 22 dollars The terminals crimp EXACTLY like the original GM wiring harness with the "533 economy crimper". They have plenty of more expensive crimpers but this one will do fine. The fancier ones crimp the terminal and the seal at the same time. This tool does the terminal, then you move the wire to another position in the jaws and crimp the seal.
Waytek also has great prices on Delphi terminals.
