looking for a prom eraser. To modify or modifed
I couldn't find an available eraser that a memcal would fit for sure.
I made my own after getting tired of searching for one that a memcal will fit in.
Just order a G4T5 bulb.
Then get a fixture that will hold an F4T5 and install it in something. I used a small tin container from W-mart.
And they were the only ones I could find with the 6" flourescent light fixture. They had batt and 110v fixtures.
I've also seen vhs tape holders used. The black ones.
Whatever you use must be opaque.
Make sure your chip burner will do memcals. That one bit me...

I used an eraser like this one:
http://www.thebytefactory.com/pr_d-erase.asp
I don't know if it was this one, or the previous one, which apparently this one replaced, but looked just like it.
I unscrewed the lid, and drilled a 1/2" hole right on top, where the bulb sits (on the lid, not the bulb). Then I took some plastic, and built a small 'dam' around a test memcal, with the UV window exposed of the memcal right over top of the 1/2" hole. When there is no memcal in place, I put in a dummy hunk of foam. I put this stuff on there, becuase the UV is harmful to your eyes, which is why they have the safety inter-lock on the drawer.
Now I can use the eraser for regular memcals, and proms, in the original drawer, so it works for both.
I didn't have ABS plastic, which I was going to glue in place. Instead, I found some high density foam, for furniture feet in Home Depot, and cut it into strips, it already had an adhesive backing on it, so I stacked it up. I'll try and snap a picture to show what I mean.
good luck!

Z69 what do you mean make sure your burner does memcals? My memcal has a UV chip. A I get my tune done or at least close I would like to erase the chip and reburn with my bin. I do not want to try to remove it from the memcal. Moates does have an adapter that you can use.

If you've got a couple memcals why not remove the eprom and replace it with a 29c256 or 27sf512? Or better yet, just remove eprom and replace with a socket.

It is the removal process that I am afraid of. I really don't want to unsolder the chip and resolder a new one in. This is the only one I have. I already have an adapter.

My first PROM setup was a de-soldered / re-soldered Atmel chip in the stock MEMCAL. It was a tedious job. In the end it was quicker to layout a PCB. If you only want to do one MEMCAL, then de-solder and install an EEPROM/FLASH in the stock MEMCAL. Take your time & get a fine point tip for the iron.
