Winaldl and blm logging question and a few other newbie questions

Long time lurker, first time poster The ECU is a 1228746 tweaked for use in my Jeep CJ w/ AMC 401 motor. I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with:

1) I searched all over this board and the net and I just can't find a clear answer for what I'm looking for. I've noticed while running Winaldl that it won't collect any BLM or INT data above 2400 rpm. Why? When I look at the saved text file I see the rpm scales go all the way to 6400 but the data stops at 2400 rpm. What do I need to change so it will at least cover the entire VE map (up to 3200 rpm)? Is it coincidence that my upper BLM cell boundary is 2400 rpm or is that the limit I'm looking for?

2) Is there a way to expand the VE map to higher rpms? I found the VE expander patches but they appear to be for a different ecu than the 8746. This engine spends a lot of time at high rpms and I'd like to have a little more control in the upper rpm range than what the PE scale allows.

3) Finally, my setup appears to have a built in rev limiter around 5500rpm and can't find where this is set. I've converted the engine to HEI ignition w/ ecu-controlled timing btw. Everything I see goes to 6400 rpm so I don't know why it's cutting out. Any ideas?

4) I found the patch demo with the rpm patch and tried that but it doesn't appear to be working. I set it to a very low rpm (1500ish) but I can rev right past it and hold any higher rpm I want. I've only tested this while parked though, do you need to be in motion for the rpm hack to work?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Probably too many questions Eric. I looked at your " shopping list" and wondered where to start My take on your list is that if you can't work out a rev limiter problem, you're going to have much bigger problems with patching the code. If you want questions about that answered, best to list the mask ID and bin you're using. Congratulations on your first post, but most of us mortals started with baby steps .

Look, Winald doesn't cut off over 2400 rpm. I've had a similar sounding problem with data cutting off just around idle - it was my cable.

Work on getting the cable right, and then try the other problems one at a time.

Thanks for the reply John, I was beginning to think I was unwelcome.

Mask id is 61. I converted the ECU from a 24 pin socket to 28 pin (adapter from moates.net) so I can run an emulator while I dial it in.

I've been dialing in the VE table via winaldl, but for whatever reason it won't collect blm or int data above 2400 rpms. It'll fill up the table up to that rpm, but it's nothing but zeros above that. I hadn't considered the cable, but I'll contact John and see if he's experienced this before with his cable. Thanks.

Work on getting the cable right, and then try the other problems one at a time.
Have you tried the rpm patch yet? I'm just curious if it is supposed to work when you're not moving or if you have to be in motion (after all, the modified code was originally based on speed)? I guess there's one way to find out, load it up and drive it instead of just reving it in the garage

Update: I looked at a blm table from earlier in the day and noticed a few scattered points above 2400 rpms so it is working up there after all. I had only looked at the most recent table which was nearly full right up to 2400 rpms and all zeros above that. It seems I was a bit heavy with the throttle in that upper range, I'll have to be more careful in the future. Oops

Ahh. Have you noticed that the BLM table allows you to select Narrow Average, Wide Average, Wide Latest, etc? You have probably got a Narrow selection. Try Wide Average and you'll get a lot more BLM averages.

I don't know anything about $61. But your "one way to find out" always is good for me! I'd suggest you post your one $61 patch question with a description of what you've tried and see if you get a response then.

Thanks John, I'll fire it up this weekend and try out the rpm patch. If it doesn't work when I moving too then obviously I did something wrong It seems my rpm limit is likely rooted in my HEI conversion, so I guess I really don't need an EFI rev limiter too.

I'll ask about the expanded VE table in a separate post though, thanks for the suggestion.
