VATS enable disable makes no difference

I have a 86 camaro. Converted to MAP running 730 ecm etc..

The funny thing is that if I leave VATS enabled (with the tick in the vats box in flags) they car will start no worries.

So it does not seem to make any difference. Is there anything else that needs to be enabled or disabled as far as VATS go?

I thought it just depends on the ticks in the flag section to enbale or disable VATS.

2nd question is, is it normal for the car to start without any chip at all? I am pretty sure I have done it once and it started up fine. I wanted to test if the car would start without any chip at all and it did. Sounded rough though.

So basically VATS is useless if someone pulls the chip anyway correct?

No chip or no memcal?
No memcal, no run......
No chip, it will run in limp mode off the memcal.
Sounds like your always in limp mode or VATS is jumpered so it doesn't matter.

The car runs fine. I am just curious if anyone has tried to start the car without memcal. I have and it starts. Not sure how it runs as I did not drive the car but I was surprised it started.

The VATS does not seem to operate with just the VATS ticked in the CHIP. It does not matter since I am not running VATS but I would have thought that if the CHIP is VATS enabled and NO VATS in CAR the car should not start.

My 91 (and it has VATS) will not start without a memcal. It will "crank" but it won't start.

Looks like you need the VATS electronics in the car for the VATS to work. If anyone has converted to MAP from MAF and is using the 730ECM maybe they have the same experience as me.

Sort of....
I don't recall all the details, but some VATS modules lock out the starter I believe. But, the code on the chip looks for a good value on at the VATS pin.
If the value is incorrect, you get zero fuel.....repeat- zero fuel....
Plenty of us have forgot to uncheck the VATS and ran into that... Plenty!
But, I'm not sure if that applies to limp mode also.
I've seen several people report running in limp mode and not notice it from a running quality standpoint.
