high idle in park low idle in drive. cant find a happy medium :(

in park or neutral it runs idle at aroun 1700 and in gear it barely runs at around 500rpm. what the heck do i mess with to get it to idle correctly? i would like it around 800-900

Bad IAC maybe? What are the commanded IAC steps while the idle is foobar?

u want whats called "IAC motor position" ? thats the only thing i see besides desired idle rpm in tuner pro RT

Yes, I worded it the way I did as the ECM has no idea where the IAC really is. It just pulses it, and if it doesn't move the ECM doesn't know that.

What to look for is if the IAC is being closed while the idle is at 1700 RPM. Then is it being opened while the idle is low at 500 RPM.

0 steps i closed i assume? cuz if so, then it looks like the ecm is functioning the iac normal. at idle when it fires up its zero. and when i tap the gas however i see the counts jump up then back down to 0 quickly. when idling normal and then once it acts up ( a few minutes after driving) it still reads 0 steps when the idle is 2200rpm!

There is either a vacuum leak, the throttle blades are open too far, or the IAC is bad.

I'd try to figure out if the IAC is closing. Maybe short A & B on the ALDL and key-on, engine off. Is the IAC clicking?

yea i can feel the iac valve buzzing when i go to unplug it to adjust idle. i do need to note that when its a fresh start it runs fine even letting it idle it will creep up very slowly, or i drive it 3 minutes and its up there. when i set my idle, i had to bring the throttle blade pretty open to keep the engine running, it said to set it at 450rpm but my engine wouldnt even run until it was up to around 600rpm. so thats where i left it. i think i need to reseal my intake i have an oil puddle very slightly near a bolt. maybe that and then a readjustment of idle and i can check up on it again? any other input for me? does the iac sound good?

also my timing with esc disconnect i have it up to around 18degrees to get it to run smooth. does this indicate anything? i changed the base rpm in the prom to make it match however.

I chased this problem last summer - RBob is exactly right on this. The ECM tells the IAC to move but there is no feedback to confirm that it actually did move. Only careful watching of the datalogs and what the motor did at idle while AC gets turned on and off, etc. led me to this discovery.
