'91 SD 350/5-speed Chip?????
Guys-
I've never really been on the PROM board but have read alot of posts. Anyways, I'm pulling my 305TPI and putting a modified L98 with ZZ4 cam, headers, and other bolt-ons. Question is, what chip should I run? Right now it has the Stage 2 Hypertech offroad chip w/ a 160 stat. Will this be ok for now? THANKS!!

I'm running the stock 305 5-speed chip in my ZZ4-clone, so I think your hypertech will be fine. Unless you want to spend the money for a custom chip.

Read up on doing chips, and get it right.
PS buying a "custom" just means settling for a little *better* then stock.

Thanks Kevin, thats kind of what I was looking for!
Grumpy-Thanks alot for the help... but anyone could have said that to me. Maybe when I have the time and money I'll do my own chips, but right now I'm in college and trying to make my car better. As for the custom chips... I don't think there is anything wrong with them. Look at the Grand National/TTA guys that run aftermarket chips and pick up a lot at the track and are beating the **** out of us guys! I don't think they are a "little" better than stock either. Whats wrong with Ed Wright's chips? I've heard and talked to alot of 3rd gen guys that use his and have picked up a few tenths and mph's. Nothing personal, but your name fits your attitude on this board. In your reply to me and others that I've read on here. Later

Asking for advice and getting it are 2 different things. I didn't get advice from you... I got some remark that didn't answer my initial question. Don't try and say I have/had an attitude. All I wanted was some help and thats not what you gave me. If you remember: I asked for a recommendation of a chip,I DID NOT ASK HOW TO DO MY OWN! If I wanted to do my own, I think I'd be smart enough to read the articles or ask:"How do I burn my own chips?" Thats not was intended so I did not ask. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Later.

GTA91, I am just learning how to burn a PROM myself. I've been reading the tech article from Traxion on "Burning your own PROM", with all the related links including Bruce's aka Grumpy, and also ALL of the questions on this board from the oldest to the most recent. My equipment has just been ordered and hopefully be here in time for Christmas.
Now that I am "enlightened", I thoroughly understand where Bruce/Grumpy is coming from. Buying an aftermarket chip is like buying a carb with it "pre-set" and just bolting it on. Sure it will run, might even perform pretty good. But will it be optimal/exactly right? Highly unlikely.
I too thought, "this is too hard/too expensive/too much to learn"...but after the initial investment of my time to read up on it, I discovered that it isn't that hard and it isn't that expensive. Yes, it will take a lot experimentation...sometimes with good results/sometimes with poor results...but I will the wiser for it. In all honesty, for the price of one or two custom chips (depending who you buy them from) it pays for the equipment.
I've talked to alot of people on this board. I have seen people who have a lot of mods yet there car isn't as fast as it really should be, and then there are others who have phenomenal performance with relatively few mods. The usual difference between them (besides mismatch parts) is often their PROM.
My have a lot of plans for my car over the next few years. I plan to learn how to burn an optimal chip for each mod I make and learn from it. I figure it is easier to make many mild mods ... tweaking for each one, than making a massive amount of mods and attempting to learn to burn a PROM then.
I could explain a lot more, but I hope you too begin to see the light (and wisdom) in Bruce/Grumpy's reply. I've read it and I didn't take it to be a "put down", but a brief response on something to consider.
