ok i received my "free" chps(MAX232ACPE) from Maxim the other day, i was looking at a diagram for the cable to connect to the ALDL/parallel port, and it listed the chip that i would need as the MAX232 not the MAX232ACPE, but will the 232acpe work? the cable is going to be for an 89 MAF tpi. also anyone have any links to some diagrams to make my own cable, the ones i have now aren't so hot. thanks!

Yes the MAX232A wil work. I beleive that the Pinouts are different. And you have to change one or two of the caps. but they work the same. Just make sure the the pins reference to each otherand that the caps. are the right ones and you shouldn't have a problem at all. Do a search for the ALDL cables again one of the pages deals with this very same issue.
