new engine, new chip

Okay, here is the deal guys. I'm swapping in a 330hp 350 (crate engine with vortec heads, holley 670cfm TB, ed performer intake). It's going into the 91 RS L03 305TBI. It has a hypertech thermo master chip in it now with a 160 thermo. I have headers but the rest of the engine is stock, engine is burning oil so it's gotta go and no not just at startup although that was also bad. Anyways, the new engine is getting ALL the emissions equipment, AC, cruise control and I'm keeping the HEI computer controlled distrib.
I know the computer controls the spark curve but what else? To be more specific, if I get into this EPROM programing will I be able to change the following:
1. Distrib max advance
2. My fan turn on temp
3. Max engine rpm
4. Get rid of EGR
5. Recalobrate speedo for 3.73 gears
The new engine has the vortec heads so I no EGR. From what I've been reading no EGR means hotter combustion chambers. Hotter combustion chambers with advance set at stock equals ping. The ping is detected with the knock sensor which tells the ECM to turn down the advance. The problem is that the advance has to be turned down to say 25 total to get rid of the ping then it does the cycle all over again.
So what I'm trying to get at is will the hypertech thermo master chip work okay for now. Z28 boy is using it with his TBI system 350ho! Also how much do you think it'll end up costing me to program my own chip? I figured $170 for equipment and $60 for the software or "bin" file from tunercat. Now for my final question (sorry so long but I need to get this crap figured out soon), where can I find information telling me exactly what all the parts of the bin file tell me? Like in what area of the table such and such controls?

1. Yes. You can adjust the spark adv

2. No. Your ECM doesn't control this. The fan switch does.

3. ??? There isn't a rpm limiter that I'm aware of

4. Yes.

5. No. the ECM doesn't control this. The VSS buffer does

One question #2, it depends on your ecm. With my SD car, I can control Fan#1 with the eprom. For Fan#2, I either need to trigger the High A/C pressure AND have my A/C turned on for the temperature settings to work. I am looking at modifying my eprom's "compare" so that the High A/C pressure is no longer a condition and only go with A/C on and temperature of the eprom.

On #3, again I can only speak for my SD TPI, but you can control fuel cut-off/cut-on based on certain rpm.

#5, you can adjust the "pulses/mile" but it only works internally within the ecm, it has no effect on the speedometer itself.

All the rest, I agree with Brent.

Thanks but still...will the hypertech thermo master chip work? I'll be driving the engine 540 miles from NJ to Ohio and I'd like to know if the chip is okay for breaking in the engine. I just don't like the idea of the detonation because the chip advances timing.
