Will this chip work? Mechanical geek needs help!!

I have an 87 GTA, w/MAF system. This part number is from JDR: "EPROM 16KX8 120NS 28CERDIP 27C128A-120". I think this is correct based on reading the posts here, but I thought one of you EE geeks (and I mean that affectionately!) could confirm this easily, or help me identify the correct chip. I wasn't sure if the pin configuration was correct - the "CERDIP" descriptor?

I've been reading the post on the eeproms & will probably go that route when I get my own programmer, but for now I have access at work to a UV eraser and a burner and want to get started.

Thanks,
Shawn

Yeah it will work, but I hate JDR. Those jerks TWICE have cancelled my orders FOR NO REASON and then didn't refund me the shipping costs and scooped the $18.00 they charged me for shipping.

They never even had the decency to respond to my e-mail to explain why they cancelled my order! The worst of it is that they charge an outrageous price to ship to Canada, and EVEN when then do finally send their stuff to me, it takes almost 2 weeks to get it.

JDR is one of the worst companies I have had the misfortune of dealing with, they got definite problems.

Glenn,

Thanks for the reply. I sent you an e-mail but realized you may be at a different location and unable to receive it. Can you recommend another online vendor for the chips? I searched Digi-Key and it looks like they're out of the chips and may have a minimum order qty.

Thanks for the help.

2 weeks?. I've had ecms going north take a month to get there.
Try Australia, takes at least a month most of the time.

Grumpy, yeah Canada Customs really get their butts in a knot when you send ANYTHING across the border. They are always looking for something to tax you on. You should hear the reaction I get when I try and call some companies in Canada and attempt to get some eproms..."E-whats?". It's pathetic.

Brendan, moving to the States is not as easy as it sounds. If you are not working in one of the "chosen few" they deem desireable, the US INS doesn't want you (except to come and visit and spend money).

Being a "hot rodder" in Canada is a very expensive hobby here. Very few of the "good parts" are available and what little (and crumby) selection they do have, is as expensive as hell.

The best I can do is to make arrangements to order it from a company is the US and then take a vacation to drive down and pick it up.

Glenn, eventhough I haven't really felt so lonely like you are feeling right now, I still feel for you and understand what you are going through.
Rick

FYI: Canadian customs is not that different from US customs. My mom went to Cuba (that's where I was born) and she brough back 2 boxes of original Cohiba Cigars (really famous brand) and when she stepped on Miami's airport, customs took the boxes so they could ""destroy them"".
I wonder who ended up smoking them?!

Glenn I know exactly what you're talking about, I'm from Dawson Creek, BC (NOT Dawson's Creek) It's about 500 miles straight North of Kamloops and I went around town looking for someone to supply me with some E whats? No such luck, two days ago I ordered some from JDR (27c128's) and I haven't recieved Confirmation, I've got a bad feeling. I think I'm srewed because Digikey is out of stock and I managed to destroy the two eproms that I had. Will my car run at all with just the limp home chip, IE good enough to get it from my garage to my shop (60 feet), Does anyone know of another source for eproms, or if anyone has a spare I could buy off of them until I find a supplier, that would be great.
Thanks

I have a couple of 128's I would part with in an emergency, but I can give you as many 256's as you want. If you can find any old ISA video cards, most of them used 27C128 EPROMS, anything newer uses 256 and 512's. I must have 30 or so 256K chips, but it's getting harder to find the older ones.

If you guys in Canada could find a place close to the border, maybe a mutual meeting place, you could have everything shipped there and it would save alot of driving time. I would be willing to order stuff for you guys and then send it your way if your having problems getting things shipped to you from some companies here. I know JDR can be a pain. I live in Ohio and they are in CA. But for the most part since i'm in the US it goes ok. I have 5 128 chips on the way now. It is only taking 7 days!... oh well.
But seriously, if anybody wants i will be willing to help you guys out, within reason of course!

Maybe a PO box just south of the border, assuming the border isn't too far a drive. Jeez, I'm starting to feel like a Mexican realizing it's that hard to ship stuff north of our border!

Maybe I'll start running contraband into Canada - eproms, performance parts, Coors Light, the occasional machine gun, weapons grade plutonium, bales of pot and kilos of coke...maybe if I molded the coke, pot, & plutonium into the parts of a machine gun they'd overlook the deadly, addictive eproms...

Oh, by the way, I ordered the proms from JDR, and a scan cable from Ruse Electronics - nice guy - and I plan to burn my first prom as soon as the blanks arrive! A slightly mod'd ARAP bin to start with...

Thanks much to everyone for your willingness to help - I'll try not to be a pain!

Lee thanks for the reply I've already tried looking for pulls, but on the video card on my old 486 its got a 256, but it's not critical yet cause it just snowed again and my car probably won't be out for another month.
