Converting from 165 to 730

I just got the 730 ECM with the wires from the junkyard this weekend. I also picked up the map and knock sensor from the parts store. The only thing I am missing is a 165 ECM connector and the 730 memcal. I was unable to find any cars with a 165 ECM at the junkyard.

Does anyone have a junk 165 or a 165 connector they would be willing to part with for a reasonable price?

Please email if so.

Thanks

Your talking about making an adaptor cable aren't you?

It doesn't even have to be a 165 ECM. Lots of GM ECM's have the same connector on the computer side. I got mine from a V-6 Camaro that didn't have a 165.

Yea, like John said. Just take your 165 ecm with you to the yards if your unsure what the connector looks like, i got mine from an 85 cavalier or something like that(not exactly sure WHAT it came out of). But as long as the connector is identical it will work fine.
Once you do get all of the things needed you will be able to do the swap with ease.
Especially since Mike Davis has already did the grunt work!(Thanks Mike!!!).

Why do you need a 165 connector if you have a 730 ECM?

I'm going to start the process of converting to speed density........I think. Just tired of the MAF stuff.

The page i just posted is Mike Davis's site that has a detailed walkthrough to do the 730 upgrade, he made an adapter so that he could easily swap from 165MAF to 730SD.
I did the same harness assembly just for the easibily. I did it on the kitchen table. Just have to change the knock sensor and hook up a Map sensor.

Ya just like leirch said.

I had luck with the tuning the 165 but I didn't see it getting where I wanted to be in the long run. Thanks for the info on the connector I didn't know if it was common or only used on the 165. Looks like I'm hitting the boneyard again.

Just find a ecm to your liking. 165 and 730 both use the two black connectors (the 730 also has the 3 yellow connector) but the 2 black are the same. Bob

I can say for sure that the '062 ECM in TBI S-trucks have identical connectors to the 165. Heck, if you're lucky enough to find a '91-up 4-cylinder S-truck, it'll actually have a 165!
