Accell DFI just installed, getting some wierd things.............

I have been getting this weird stall that happens every once in a while. It seems to happen at random. The car will start running incredibly rough and timing will just go to ****. Most of the time, it only happens for about 5 or 6 seconds. Tonight ,however, I was doing about 60 on the onramp of I-20 and it stalled and stayed that way. I got out and checked under the hood and averything looked ok. I started to gigle connections to see if any had come loose. The splice in harness that I got to run the MAP sensor in place of the MAF sensor runs in between the TPS and the MAP. It steals power from the TPS to run the MAP basicly. Anyway, when I giggled that harness the the power to the fans cut off and on and there was a distinct clicking sound. Like an electrical connection coming on and off if you get what I mean. After I giggled this harness so that the power to the fans came back on we reloaded the base map to the ECU and it ran great again. Do you think that the harness is causing the ecu to lose contact with the TPS, IAC, and MAP sensors? If so would that cause the ECU to mess up like that? Any help would be great thanks.

When you spliced into the Maf sensor center wire (for sending map signal to the ecu) did you cut the wire and then solder to the end which runs to the ecu? You didn't just use one of those crimp on type splices, did you? Also if you did cut and solder did you use heat shrink tubing or at least electrical tape to insulate the new solder connection? And please tell me you soldered these two wires and you didn't just twist the two together....

If have to giggle your harness to get a response from your sensors or your fan, it’s pretty obvious that there is a problem with the harness or the connector at the DFI itself. I’d talk to the manufacturer of that harness. Send it back and have it tested if you have to. TunedPort350 is right about not using those crimp type splices for the MAP sensor conversion harness. I’ve had that problem with those with the crimp splice. One thing I’d like to point out is that once you configure and upload a base map up to the DFI, it should save it, even if you disconnect the DFI from the harness completely. All configurations and base map profiles should be saved. You shouldn’t have to keep uploading the base map. Hope this helps.

What does laughing at your harness have to do with anything? Just kidding. I think it's spelled "jiggle." Sorry, couldn't resist.

I uh.....that is to say.........OK!...OK I'm guilty! I admit it! I just used the twist on style caps to splice the wires together. I stopped by the auto store on the way ome and got some of the crimp style connecters, but apparantly they aren't all that great either. I talked to the manufacturer today and they are sending me a new harness and recomended that I solder the wires together as well. The crimps will do until the new harness gets here and I learn how to solder. Thanks for the help.

Why dont you try keeping your view screen up, then when it dies or runs funny....see what sensor is not giving any input.
That would be the way I would do it, besides fixing your wiring.

The battery on the laptop had run out when the bad stall happened. Since I recrimped and taped up the connection I haven't had a problem.

I converted my laptop to plug into the lighter. No more batteries to run out. Also, definitely take the time to solder all connections.
