Shipping on 29C256 PROM's from JDR.....What a RIP-OFF!!!

Okay, I'm wondering where else I can get the 29C256 EEPROM's from. I just called JDR Microdevices and placed an order, only to cancel my order after the guy gave me my total. Here is the situation from JDR.

Four 29C256's @ $5.55 each:--------$22.20
Shipping:---------------------------$ 5.00
Handeling since under $50:----------$ 8.00 !!!

Total for the four PROM's: $35.20 !!!

I told the guy to forget it. I don't see how they can justify an additional $8.00 fee because the order is under $50. To me that is a blatant rip-off.

That's basically $13.00 for shipping when the four chips weigh no more than a quarter of an ounce combined. Keep in mind that this is standard shipping rates, and not express or anything like that.

Where did you guys purchase your chips from, and what sort of prices (including shipping) did you pay?

PS: Xtronics also upped their price for the Pocket Programer which I JUST ordered today. It was $130, now it's $150 as of about a month ago....Today is obviously not my day! LOL

Give http://bgmicro.com/ a call. I don't know if they have the 29C256 but I was pleased with their service.

Yeah, I've had my own problems with JDR. Last time, they cancelled my order for NO REASON...and kept my shipping charges (which are $18.00 to Canada).

Organize a group purchase from Insight. Their shipping costs are cheaper, they were about $1.00 cheaper on each eprom and they get it to you in just 2 days. Only problem is you need a minimum order of $50.00.

Trust me, there are a lot of guys that will go in on this group purchase.

Brent...unfortunately bgmicro doesn't have the EEPROM in 29C256.

Glenn...I checked out Insight, and they have the 29C256's like you said. I'm going to order $50 worth of them tomorrow if the shipping charges are in line.

I'll do like you suggested, and piece the ones out that are in excess of what I need to anyone on this board that is interested. Once I find out the total and actually have them in hand, I'll re-post a GP on this board.

Thanks.

I got mine from Insight & it was no problem. we use them all the time @ work & they are a pleasure to work with. the down side is that they have a $50 minimum. maybe go in w/some others

ROC...It was a mistake I made when I first registered at Thirdgen.org a long time ago.

I first tried "Steves ZZ4", but immediately forgot my password and didn't feel like emailing Dirk and waiting for a new password.

I was impatient, so I just typed the next number in line for my new screen name...hence "Steves ZZ5". Just to kep things the same, I use it on NEThirdgen.org and MFBA.org also.

"Steves ZZ4" is still active, and sitting in purgatory somewhere... Hopefully I won't be stupid and forget my ZZ5 passwords..hehehh
