Pocket programmer?
I can't get mine to work, I've been using the DOS software and it says it can program, but when I do a blank eprom check it says the prom is erased. What gives?? At first the software didn't even find it with the DOS version (funny how the windows did though). The DOS says the prom is erased, but the windows says it isn't. I'm using AM27C128 -120DC 0044MSM 12.75V and I choose #10 when it comes time to select the chip.
I load the buffer from disk (14), then I program eprom from buffer(2), then I do a blank eprom check(1).. and it says it is erased! Does it sound like I'm doing something wrong.

Have you called and talked with Xtronics yet?

Mine is funky too. I have to use Windows to erase, and Dos to program. It fails doing it any other way.

There were some posts recently of people having problems getting the Flash Prom AT29C256 to work properly with the Pocket Programmer.
It turns out that certain computers need to have certain "drivers" disabled in the Config.sys and autoexec.bat.
Karl from Xtronics posted a link to FAQ's on the Pocket Programmer that helped most people overcome these difficulties. Check some of the older posts for these. I think you will find your answer in there.
YES, some machines DO need to be tweaked to get the Pocket Programmer to work properly. I have found DOS always works when you set up your computer properly. But I was never able to get the Windows Version to work on my older, slower (with less memory) W95 machine which I use for PROM burning.
I got the Windows version to work on my larger, faster (and more memory) W98SE notebook....but I don't use it for PROM burning. So there are some "machine dependencies" for the Pocket Programmer. But the DOS version should ALWAYS work when your computer is set properly.
Check your Parellel Port Setting in your BIOS to ensure it is in "standard" mode. Bi-directional seems to cause some problems on some machines.

I have not had any problems programming with my Pocket Programmer. I use Win98, and didn't change any settings. I never tried it from DOS. My PC has an AMD 475 chip with 256kRam.
You may want to try progamming those 27C128 chips at 21volts. That's what I have to use to get it to work. Most chips do take the 12.75, but the manual suggests trying higher levels if the chip won't burn at the lower voltage.

pulling valve covers or manifolds.
Also with stock 2.77 rear end!!!

I called them earlier today and they were pretty stumped, all I was really able to do was try a different computer. I tried and no difference. Now to make things even more unusual I read the original chip and then verified it back to the same chip without removing it from the programmer... it didn't verify!! I simply read it then tried to verify... shouldn't it verify, or am I way to stupid to make this thing work??
