Moates software datalogging ?

I was making some runs down the drag strip on Saturday and tried to datalog so I could do some tuning...I was only getting about 15-20 captures in the 15 seconds of run...I was hoping for more like a hundred...or maybe 60 or something...

Is it a variable or something I have set wrong? I tried to switch the initial variables around on the setup screen...but couldn't figure it out.

I have it running in an old 486 laptop...best I could figure is that it is the laptop holding the software back. If this is the case, would running it strictly in MS-DOS and not Win 95 fix this slowness?

Thanks,
GregF

Running straight DOS ought to help. Try it around town some, you should get like 8 per second or so... Also try keeping the defaults, particularly for the 'B)rief' datalog mode, helps speed things up... I have good luck with a 486-50. Definitely log to the hard drive not a floppy. You can use Win95 I think, but maybe just try the 'restart in msdos mode' option... If you continue to have issue, let us know...

Thanks, Craig...If it doesn't rain, I'll fuss with it at IRP tonight...

Any progress on getting the BLM cell into the abbreviated spread sheet?

As for around town...it's great! I took it out last night and grabbed like 1300 lines of data...but I'm not sure how long that was over...I wanna say like 10 minutes.

I talked to some guys on the mailling list and also checked at the track. Booting up in DOS mode netted me about 70 frames on a 15 second drag strip run...so that's better...but still not great...

Then I got some emails...saying you have to jumper the car side of the E and M or L ports on the ALDL to get it to link in 'fast' mode. On some cars, they didn't have terminals in those holes and they would only link in 'slow' mode...so I"m gonna check that...I'll post my results. Diacom acts the same way.

That doesn't sound right... What does my program tell you with respect to error rates? If there is a high error rate, you might want to check into how good your grounds are and such. too-long cables can be problematic, particularly depending on routing. The jumper deal is for terminals A & B together with a 10K resistor. I hadn't heard of any other jumpering, but I'm willing to learn...

I'll look at it sometime when I get a chance... I 'think' that the jumperring of the other 2 pins on the car side nets just what you are saying...a better ground...I also would almost believe that doing that wouldn't help me any...I think it's my slow 486 laptop...A newer pentium laptop netted about 150 frames per run...on my car...with no mods...so I'm thinking it's on the computer side...not the car side.

I'll let you know.

For a 15-second run, you should be seeing about 150 or less, so that sounds like you're in the ballpark with the faster PC. Maybe I've already said, but I have good luck with my 486-50 in Win95 booted to the DOS prompt and in the DOS mode. However, it is on the ragged edge. With disk logging activated (pretty good slowdown even on the newer version), it'll bring it from 9/sec to 6-7/sec.

Is the new version that logs MAP value ready yet?

I've had problems with a PII-366 ThinkPad 600E (slow frame rates, drops, etc). My wifes older Toshiba P-75 works awesome though, no errors or anything.

Thanks...I was thinking of that...the 60-70 frames per run is usable...just glad I got it above 10!!! That was pretty bad. I'll live with it until I get a newer laptop in a year or so.
