Well, my FIRST adventure in chip programming was a success, The car runs, and it drives better than before. Not saying much since all I did was take the 305 ARAP Bin that was supplied by zaphodb and did a little tweeking.

This MIGHT not be a big thing for you, but cinsider that I am using the 29C256 chips I am geeked that I got it all to work.

Enuf grinning..

Got a question...lemme set some background.

SINCE I have an 87 car I was ignorent enough not to switch my DIACOM, and I noticed that it was not registering the TCC (Torque Convertor Clutch) Lockup. When I thought about it for a few seconds, I remembered that the ARAP chip was for an 89.

Sooooo, I changed my VIN to an 89, and there was NO TCC Lockup, but a 3rd Gear / OD Switch, that would change fomr off to on. All the switches seemed to be operating as far as the ECM was concerne. So am I ok, or is there something I am missing?

In Short, how would I know if I have a TCC lockup with DIACOM, since the 89 setup does not offer that option???

Not an answer to your question, but since you're mentioning Zaphod's BINs..

Did GM really offer 305 and 350 varieties of ARAP, or was one of them user-modified from the other? just curious..

No, Z, altered the bin to work with a 305(cylinder adjust).

NO, the ARAP was for a 350, it was just modified to work in the 305, the injector flow rate was set down to 19.5, I honestly dont know what else was changed, but it worked GREAT in my 305 (312).

There is NO cylinder displacement change necessary to make the ARAP work with a 305. MAF has no such requirement, only SD does. The only differences needed for the ARAP is Manual versus Automatic, and the Injector Flow Constant. The rest (spark, highway mode AF ratios, TCC locking speed) are just tweaks that are based on personal preferences.

I started to think, SINCE the ARAP was originally for a 350. From 86/87-92 all 350's were an Auto from GM, and there was no exceptions. Therefore this means that it came with an AUTO, and therefore should work fine...

I have tried the ARAP BIN on both autos and standards...and it works fine. About the only thing that some people like to alter is the spark advance...it is quite aggressive (47*) at part throttle on the ARAP.

You should get the modified 6E ecu file from Zaphod that allows you to tweak the ARAP to your own personal preferences or get 6EX.TDF from TunerCat (if those mods have not been incorporated in the standard 6E yet). It is more important to mod the bin to YOUR car and your personal preferences.

Contact TunerCat and request the 6EX.TDF if TunerCat has not incorporated the changes in the 6EX.TDF into the 6E.TDF. It will make tuning the ARAP.BIN a bit easier.
