can i bypass the vats with a new prom???
i had some jerkoff steal my ignition key a month ago and when i went to have a new one made they said my vats ignition wasnt putting out a code so my module was bad. funny since i drove it at the track the night the key was stolen huh?? anyway i need a new prom for the motor and heard i could bypass the vats here instead of replacing the 175 dollar module. two birds, one stone.

Yes, you can bypass VATS. It depends on the ECM you are using, but in TunerCat, there is a "switch" defined in the TDFs ($8D for SD and $6E for 89 MAF) for those that had VATS.
FYI, if you remove the eprom, it also bypasses VATS (ie. the engine will crank), BUT your engine won't fire as the EPROM also controls the injectors. But the VATS works in conjunction with the EPROM. Turn off the VATS switch, and VATS is bypassed.

You can turn off VATS in the ECM, but there is also a relay for the starter you have to bypass too.
