Dual Prom Theory
I was trying to think of a way to run two seperate proms run to a switch on the dash so that you could switch between an economy burn, and all out performance burn.
I'm new to chip tuning (I havent even gotten the equipment yet, but I think this could work. I think that you can piggyback two flash chips on top of each other and solder all of the legs to each other except for the one that gets the 12 volt input. you would disconnect both of these from the zif connector, and run them to a switch. When the switch is pressed one way, one chip is used, when its pushed the other, the second chip is used. Here is a picture that illustrates what I am thinking
http://www.xbox100.com/tutorials/Tur...YourXboX_3.pdf
Scroll down to the picture of the two flash chips on top of each other.
You could also just wire a second ZIF connector to the underside of the ecm board. Or perhaps mount the connector for the prom remotely so that you could easily get to your chip. I just like the idea of having a switch with two seperate proms.
Let me know what you guys think, and how off I am.
Give me your guys thoughts on this.

Re: Dual Prom Theory
Thats nice, but I"m operating TPI, that says only TBI. Thats similar to what I want to do though. Are there any solutions for TPI? I think soldering would work as long as someone had a pinout availalbe so you know what pin to switch.

Re: Dual Prom Theory
Couple of thoughts.
1.) Unnecessary, the Power and cruise areas of your program are in different regions. You can tune the cruise and other non-WOT areas for all the economy you want and tune the WOT for all out power.
2.) No need for separate chips, several programs fit on the same chip.
3.) Craig Motes makes a device to switch between different programs written to the same chip.
G2X TBI-Type Switching Adapter
or
G3 Bank Switching Adapter
Enjoy

Re: Dual Prom Theory
Ok, thanks for the input. I am new to this, and have a lot of research to do.
Will the burning equipment work the same between a TBI and TPI. I was talking to a guy about buying his equipment that he used on a TBI car.

Re: Dual Prom Theory
Instead of switching power, there is a chip select (CS) input to the PROM. Grounding that line will select that chip. You do need to power both chips (to +5v) as the data and address lines are connected.
Place a pull up on PROM's CS line, then set your switch to ground one or the other. Flipping the switch with the engine running will most likely result in an ECM reset (engine skips for a half a second). So no flip of the switch while at WOT
RBob.
