Re: not sure about chip

First, it is always better if you post the particular car & engine you have as it does have an effect. MAF is a little more forgiving to minor modifications than SD.

Regardless, ALL cars benefit from eprom tuning INCLUDING a bone stock engine. I can obtain a .3/.4 increase in ets & 3-4 mph just by the eprom alone on a bone stock car. As well, you increase the gas mileage by up to 20% on the highway.

Learning how to tune & burn your own eprom should be the FIRST modification people make to their car. It's far easier than people think and can accomplish as much as most common modification such as you are contemplating (at a lower cost as well).

It is far easier to 'learn' on a bone stock (or nearly bone stock as your car will be) than waiting until you've made serious modifications and haven't got a clue on what to do.

Then, you are almost always forced to get a "custom" eprom by some eprom writer who will make the "least amount" of changes possible and mostly to WOT yet charge you an outrageous amount of money.

Because they did very few changes to the "part throttle" tuning, you'll find constant "glitches" and driveability issues...sometimes so bad that the car is no longer fun to drive. But, it is IMPOSSIBLE for any custom eprom writer to tune your car for part throttle unless he can be in your car and constantly revise your tune as "issues" develop. Only you can do that.

If you are interested in learning how to tune & program your own eproms, go to this link to our "sticky". To a "newbie" it looks a little intimidating, but after a little investment in learning, you will be very happy that you did.

In the end, you will be far happier with your car and then be capable of making virtually any modification you wish and know that YOU CAN TUNE IT!

PS: Most guys need to read it a few times for it all to sink in....but the more you read it, the simpiler it seems.
