Dyno numbers for the truck

263.1 hp, 308 ft lbs.

considering a 20% loss for drivetrain, that's not too bad.

Seems like there should be more, but I talked with the guys at the shop and they think running big tires (35) on 16 inch wheels are dragging me down. I have 4.56 gears in a 9.5 inch 14 bolt SF axle which is probably sapping a few more HP/TQ than your average truck 10-bolt.
I actually made a few changes to the VE table during 2 hours of test runs- the AFR held at 13.0 in PE from 2000 rpm and up.
Played with injector offset- no changes. TUrned Async on- no change. The only Async fuel I get is Async AE when I floor it, that's it. My injectors reach about 86 percent DC at peak. I reduced PE SA by 1.5 degrees and gained 5 HP at 5000 rpm. Fuel pressure was at 15 psi according to the dyno (had the line plumbed in) which contradicts my fuel pressure gauge (14 psi). I thought my fuel pump was going out- not the case. 15 psi SOLID though the entire RPM range.
I feel like the tune is pretty good, but it seems like I should be getting more power.
The 350 HO was dyno'd by GM to have 330HP and 380TQ.
-edit GM numbers were on a stand (obviously) with a carb, and probably a high rpm manifold
I think maybe porting the manifold and heads with a good port job will help out.
Whaddya guys think?

Re: Dyno numbers for the truck

seems like I should have more torque.
I think air/fuel delivery is robbing me. I have longtube headers each feeding their own cat then going into a dual in dual out muffler (all 2.5 dia pipe)
I bet the porting will unlock some more power
need a roller cam too. I want the ZZ4 (thanks Fast)

O yeah-
had some knock at 3K rpm, and 4K. pulled 1 deg in those areas, and pulled some from PE SA (like I said)

Re: Dyno numbers for the truck

20% loss on 330hp is 264hp.
20% loss on 380trq is 304trq.
Looks like you are right where you should be?

Your driving an urban assault vehicle. All that steel really loads the motor up good.

Trade ya!

In all honesty, the crappy car thing gets old fast. Especially when the engine tears the car apart.

Re: Dyno numbers for the truck

I'd say you did excellent for that motor, that drivetrain, the cats, the tbi.

Are those numbers corrected for altitude/weather?

I've heard of cars with more performance parts doing worse.

With those huge tires, your effective gear ratio is much worse than stock, so it will feel slow.... not matter what the engine is doing.

IOW a 4.56 rear end on 35" diameter tires is equivalent to a 3.51 ratio on 27" tires (225/70R15 size, as an example). You're giving up the potential acceleration performance of ther 4.56 by using huge tires. And a 3.51 rear end in a 5000 lb truck isn't going to feel as spry as it would in a 3500 lb Fcar.

Those two things together are what is making the truck feel slow.

Pay close attention to some of the things he's done. You don't want to swamp what you have with too-large-a-cam and lack of tuning.
