Guru help please
I have a question i need help with. If my EPROM base timing is set to +10* Should I move my Dissy from +6* to +10*???
This is something i thought I might have asked a long time ago and my answer i thought was my dissy should be at +6* and EPROM you can change it to what is required.
If they are different wouldn't that cause problems?

Re: Guru help please
Base timing at the disty should be set the same as the base timing in the chip!! Other wise your timing could be out do to the computer thinking that it has more/less timing than it is set up for. Hope that this helps

Great thanks,
if i make changes to the spark table am i going to have to adjust my dissy?
do you recommend that i set my dissy timing at +6* and my EPROM base timing +6*. And just add + a couple degres of timing to my spark table if needed?? rather then mes with the dissy and the base timing. is that how you all do it.
I really need to make sure i'm doing stuff right.

Re: Guru help please
I dont beleive you need to change your spark table to compensate for the disty settting the computer will take care of that as long as your disty matches the initial timing in the bin/chip!! I would say that 6* is a safe point for initial timing, depending on your cam and other mods??? I would just set your prom initial and disty the same and then play with your spark tables-- So long as your Ve's are in good shape?? You may need to readjust your Ve's table after playing with the timing tables though!! Hope that this helps some

Also if you do a search in the search forum for an article called tuningWOT the author is wolfmanken, there is 28 replies and it goes over the timing issues fairly well and breaks it down for you!!

Re: Guru help please
great thanks alot!!. I'm fairly runnig a stock motor. Freebee mods mostly.
I will set my base timing and dissy timing to 6* Then I'll have to figure out my fueling as you all state. I will do some searchs thansk this is not any easy thing.
the only thing I'll do in my chip as of today is mod is my coolant temps,TCC times,VATS disable ONLY being safe. Then i'll datalog and go from there. I have a feeling this could take a very very long time to get a good chip running...

Re: Guru help please
Hey just so that you know I started chip tuning on a modded motor to start with and that was definatley harder to get tuned than stock. I have also only been tuning for about a month strait and my engine is finally in a good state of drivability!! Still working on small stuff like timing and cold/hot tuning. Not to scare you but probably took about 100different chip burns to get to where I am now!!! It is fun though. Just take small steps and you should be good!!! There is a ton of info on this site, and very helpfull people as well. Hope everything goes well.

Yeah I hear you there, For the longest time I was guessing on what was good tunes, instead of listening to my car. Reason being was that my ECM was bad and it didn't datalog all the time. So i just guessed, but as of today I'm on a good road. I did a compression test, most of my senors have been replace,ECM replaced, tuned up and everything.so it really runs very well but, I want to nail down a good tune... to get some good tire smoken.
