Can't decide what

AutoProm or Laptop

Let me run-down the scenario. Can hook scan tool to the vehicle and everything is great, no problem. Hook up my laptop through the AutoProms ALDL cable and I get about 5 seconds worth of log. It then locks up and gives me the data error message. I have tried 3 different software programs with the same result. TTS Datamaster, ScannerPro, and TunerProRT all give me problems. I have tried the AutoProm in both the pass through setting and the normal mode. Neither works the way it should. I have even gone so far as to try another vehicle. WinALDL will not even work on my GMC Jimmy from the AutoProm interface. Finally I have verified all settings and have the newest version of the software loaded from Moates.net. PLEASE HELP before something takes a full load of 45s.

Do you have a plain vanilla ALDL cable before you start waisting perfectly good '45 on some FR4 PCB encased in plastic??? It smells like you may have buffer overflow issue (windows/lappy issue).

Re: Somethings going to get shot
I did'nt know Laptops and AutoProms were in season.

Seriously, have you upgraded the AutoProm to the latest firmware? There is a new firmware version that was recently released to work better with the newest version of TPRT. I know I experienced a couple of problems that were cured by upgrading firmware. This would not explain the problems in pass through mode but it can't hurt. Trying a standalone ALDL cable would help narrow the problem as RF mentioned. If you don't have access to one, at least ohm out the ground pin, pin A on the ALDL side of the interface cable. A bad or flaky ground between the I/F and ECM can cause serious headaches. HTH

Where did you go on the Moates site for the latest firmware for the Autoprom? I've been having similar connection / datalogging issues (as Fast355) for a while now and can't seem to fix anything. I've uninstalled and re-installed TPRT, uninstalled and re-installed the USB drivers - nothing. Maybe the firmware update will work!

Fast355 - I'm ready to smash my laptop with a sledgehammer!!!!!!!

Fast, you got a spare laptop to try?
i've had some connection problems on occasion & so far other than one time, it turned out to be a problem with windows. the one time it wasn't windows it was my USB cable had started taking a dump, intermittently the data would drop out..

Ok I did the driver, not the firmware. Going to try version 2.17, the latest and greatest. I will keep you'll updated. I am driving 20ish miles today to Grapevine from FortWorth. Will let you'll know if it works.

Guess what, it DIDN'T WORK! I think its time for Laptop/Autoprom season. On a side note, the EBL datalogging works fine as does the cheapy Serial-USB coverter and my original homemade 160 baud ALDL cable.
