Re: chip formating?

Formating is only neccessary for file systems, a chip like this contains only binary non-moving pre-determined fixed-position information and so needs only to be burnt straight in, no extra fuss.

Re: chip formating?

If its a flash chip, then no, just plug it into the burner, select the right chip in the software, and burn it.

If its an EPROM chip with a window, then it should come blank, but after you burn it once, you will need a UV light eraser to blank it and use it again.

Re: chip formating?

It would be suggested that if you are using a flash chip and a burner that you do a blank check first and then go ahead and burn your program.

Re: chip formating?

Some chips require an erase first, such as the 27SF512. UV-eraseable chips also require erasure before a new burn.
