need help with ecm

I have a 16197427 ecm, i opened up the ecm and installed the GP1 kit from moates (Link- http://www.moates.net/product_info.p...products_id=41 )

I took the original eprom out of the stock adapter and read it it using my programmer, then i burned the bin to a 27SF512 chip that came with the GP1 kit. I installed the kit, the new eprom, and the stock adapter minus the stock chip.

The truck fired right up but it idles high, like around 1500-2000 rpms. It only shifts gears manually and the converter dosent lock up in high gear. the check engine light also flashes 3-4 times a second.

I tried sticking the stock eprom into the moates adapter and it did the same exact thing as it did when i had the 27SF512 chip in.

Whats wrong with this thing???

Its a 94 s10 4.3 v6. Thanks for any help. -Allen

Re: need help with ecm

If the SES light is fast flashing instead of giving a code it could mean a bad chip (or adapter). I don't think I have ever seen on flash like you describe.

Try putting the stock chip back in with out the adapter like it was from the factory and see what happens.

Re: need help with ecm

i kind of messed up two of the pin inputs on the stock adapter..... dont think ill beable to get it to work again. The G1 adapter is brand new, so is the chip. When i put the stock chip in the G1 adapter, it does the same thing and i know that chip is good.

I am going to guess that you either don't have the MEMCAL snapped into the Memcal adapter in the right orientation, or your chip is not in the right direction.

Re: need help with ecm

I have the G1 adapter plugged into the right side of the memcal, which is the side with the chip that is covered by a circuit board. The other chip is the chip i removed and read, then burned the bin onto the 27SF512. im pretty sure that is how it goes but maybe im wrong. Ive also made sure that everything is snapped in good.

Re: need help with ecm

I got a feeling the chip is not postitoned correctly in the zif socket.

Make sure that where the stock memcal plugs to the side of the adapter that the pins are not in the first pair of holes and that it is turned the right way.

Make sure the new chip is positioned with the notch away from the zif handle.

Are you new to prom burning? If so the you could have put the chip in the programmer the wrong way.

Hope some of theis helps, if not hit us up again.

i did have the adapter in the first pair of holes. So i unplugged it and plugged it back in so the first pair of holes are empty and then i put the stock chip in the zif socket exactly like in your pic. Now the truck wont even start. It just rolls over. wtf??

Re: need help with ecm

heres a pic that i snapped of my adapter and memcal. I took it with my cell phone so its alittle fuzzy. Do you think that it is possible that the memcal in my truck is different and i need different adapter?

Re: need help with ecm

I don't think the adapter is the problem.

Try this just to see what happens,
put the stock memcal back like you had it and start the engine to see if it runs like it did before you moved the memcal. If it starts and you get the fast flashing SES light you are back where you started.

Shut off the engine and take the chip out of the zif socket. If the truck cranks and does the same way as with the chip in there is a problem with the chips.

I know some of this may sound crazy but untill someone post something more helpfull (which they tend not to if its not 3rd gen f bodys) all I know to do is trouble shoot it.

Re: need help with ecm

started it without the chip in, trucks runs the same as it does when its in. Is it possible that i ruined the chip by reading it wrong?? I used a willem programmer to read it and i used the 27c512 settings. any idea where i can find a .bin like mine to download?? i checked moates but theres not much of a selection for 4.3 TBI's.

Look here
http://www.moates.net/fileman/index....200D%200E%2031

You will have to get the bin id from your stock chip, its the 4 letter code(BHDF,BJYB) on the chip. If you can't find the same one you have you will just have to open them one at a time untill you find one for a V6.

Re: need help with ecm

One more thing that just hit me, where are you starting the program in on the chip?

Read about your new chip. http://www.moates.net/index.php?cPath=26

The 1227165 and 1227730 ECMs take 16 KB file size. Your ECM takes a 64 KB.
I do not know what to tell you to put there but if you look in the Moates forum http://www.moates.net/phpforum/index.php you may can post there telling what you have and ask what to start the program at.

Re: need help with ecm

Yeah you have to make sure you have the right offsets in both the burning of the chip and in the buffer settings.

If you have the wrong offsets then the ECM goes into limp home and starts flashing the SES light.

If you put the chip in facing the wrong way the ECM goes into limp home and starts flashing the SES light.

I have done both lol
