Prom info question
Ok, I am getting ready to start prom burning for the first time. When I put my combo together I purchased several things from TPIS, including their level 6 custom PROM. Now before everyone starts saying what a waist of money that was, I bought all of that stuff before becoming a third-gen member so I didn't know any better at the time. Now, the car attually runs pretty good with the TPIS PROM, but I feel that it can be tuned for even greater performance. My question is can I get the bin info off of my TPIS PROM? I was looking on Moates site and saw the HDR1 adapter. Is that what this adapter does? The PROM from TPIS looks just like a stock PROM, can info be pulled from that style of PROM? I am using Tunerpro & BURN 1. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Prom info question
I haven't tried to read the stock PROM either. I was going to buy the HDR1, but wasn't sure if it was going to work.

Re: Prom info question
You should be able to read both your stock prom and the TPIS prom. I did the same and it's interesting to see the approach TPIS took in tuning. To get my engine to run much better than the TPIS chip I've made a lot of minor changes to satisfy my set up.

Re: Prom info question
just curious, what type of engine mods do you have? what burning hardware & software are you using? and what did you use to read the PROM?

Re: Prom info question
For DYI tuning went the cheap route: All Moates - that would cost about $265 for everything. Burn1 for chip pgming; GP1 adapter kit; HDRI Memcal Header for reading your TPIS and stock chips; ALDU1 and CABL1 setup for scanning; TunerPro RT software. All you need beyond this is a inexpensive laptop.
In fact the guy who helped get me started lives in Bartlett.

Re: Prom info question
I would recommend Moates setup and Tunerpro for beginning to tune.
Its just so easy to get started and driving in your first tune. I am not saying the other setups are any different, its just that it makes it much easier when you have access to so many different bins and masks.
Whatever you do get the adapter with a ZIF, its a cinch to pull a tab and pop the chip out so you can burn it. I like to use the SF512 chip myself.
Also, remember the operating range of your cam when doing your tuning.
Good luck!
