How do I start to tune?
I finally got everything to datalog. I started with tunerpro then found I need tunerpro RT to datalog. What do I choose to start, apyp, or arap? Next what XDF do I choose? It is telling me i have mismached ADS and XDF file, ALDL association error? Hardware not found. Not connected.I have read that all you need is tunerpro, definition files, $8D program ADS files for dataloging. I think I need more info. I have an 86 chevy truck with a 90 350 TPI with a HSR intake, with the 7730 ecm, any help will be appreciated.

Re: How do I start to tune?
What do you have for hardware? As in what ALDL cable do you have?
You will likely have to set-up the proper com port for TP RT to connect to.
Open your control panel, device manager, com ports and look at what port is showing, if you only have one device connected, it should be the only com port showing a number.
Now go into TP RT prefernces and under the ALDL/Emulation tab, sellect this com port number, then "test for cable" You should get a pop up that says "cable found and functioning properly", if you do, click apply.
Now you need to connect to the hardware, to do this you click on the two blue arrows. You should now be able to see values on the dashboard.
This might help:

Check your port settings and preferences in TP RT.

Re: How do I start to tune?
The ADS should be for the ECM that you are using and the XDF, should match the bin you are using, by default these should automatically match.
So com3 in device manager was showing as being connected to the ALDL cable?
You can verify this with decice manager open, and plugging in or unplugging the ALDL cable, device manager will automatically refresh and show the new com port or one ill dissapear.

Re: How do I start to tune?
I am finally getting somwhere, I plugged in the USB while the ports were open and found it to be com 5, so I changed it on TP RT, then I took my laptop back out to the truck then the laptop got stuck on initalizing hardware and frooze up! I think it is back now, I think I may have mismached the ADS and or XDF, is there a way to reset them? When I checked to see what ecm it showed the 165 so I went to the XDF and changed it to the 730, by changing the XDF would'nt that change the ADS too? I have read alot but no hands on experience. Thankyou for the help.

Re: How do I start to tune?
The mismatch of ADS and XDF can be resolved by editing the XDF header information.
There is a selection for what ADS file is related/linked. (ALDL Association tab)
Selecting the file you are using will make the message go away.

Re: How do I start to tune?
Still in the learning mode, this morning I logged my truck and recorded it and played it back. I still can't figure how to make it full screen, it only stays at the bottom, how do I make it full screen?

Re: How do I start to tune?
Just a guess,
Think its a windows thing.
I put the mouse pointer on the separation line and when I
get the arrow pointing both ways, left click and holding down, drag the frame up where you want it.
And on the items list, just x it out or hide items list in view.
I'm running old tried an true 98se though and don't know what the newer versions have for options.
If thats what your talking about

Re: How do I start to tune?
Sure is, I will try it, there is ALOT to learn about datalogging and tuning. How do you know if the motor is running right? What do you look for to know if it has to be changed? I am still going over all the info I can find.

Re: How do I start to tune?
Also I was able to datalog with no bin or XDF selected. If I am correct, but I will need them to change/ burn a new chip? Is that right?

Re: How do I start to tune?
I had the truck running for awhile (parked, not registered) and didnot go into closed loop. I am sure that it has to go into closed loop to know if anything has to be changed. Is there a link to show what all the values should be to compare mine to?

Re: How do I start to tune?
Doesn't matter if it's in closed loop or not, in fact many people will say it's better to run in open loop to tune and get everything very close, then turn closed loop on just for those very minor changes.
Someone elses tune (values) might be completly wrong for your combination. You need to give the engine what it wants and what makes it run best, and if that is something that seems to go against what other people experiance as good for thier engine, then so be it.

Re: How do I start to tune?
Sounds like this will be trial and error, I have heard that every engine is different. You can turn closed loop on? What is a good starting point to begine to tune?
