$6E ARAP tuning for 268H cam and heads help
i finally got my new motor and combo running today. i have a 350 with 64cc combustion chamber and 190cc intake runners aluminum procomp heads. they have dual valve springs by comp and so forth. next i have a comp cams 268H flat tappet cam with the 114 lobe separation grind. i also added 30 ib injectors. for the induction i have a tpi setup with slightly ported slp runners ported at the plenum side along with a port matched plenum that has other parts ported in it too. i have the stock intake manifold but that is heavily ported. for the exhaust i have hedman headers with their y pipe. i gutted my cat and have a 2.5" dynomax catback intake a spintech muffler with dual outlets. this is all in an 89 firebird. anyways i started out with an arap bin to get the car started seeing as it had aluminum heads. i datalogged and started messing with the first 2 MAF tables that were very very rich. also i adjusted for the larger injectors and a few other things necessary. my problem atm is the car cruises fine but when i get on it at WOT the car is a snail it has no power you hear it want to move but it goes nowhere. but once the car hits maybe 4500-5200 or so it starts picking up and moving decently. anyways id like to know where all this lost power is, could it be the timing being way off? or is it the fueling side although its not too bad at WOT. ill try and post up my current bin tomorrow along with a couple datalogs. but any guesses will be appreciated until then.

Re: $6E ARAP tuning for 268H cam and heads help
do you have a wideband to tune WOT?
what is your WOT timing table look like?
you probly need more fuel if your PE vs RPM table is stock and maf tables 5 and 6 are stock
its gonna want fuel up top over stock. now with TPI your limited to no more than 5200 rpms i'd say even with those runners. Car should be dead by 5500
so i'd look into your air fuel ratios at 3000-4500 and then 4500-5500 where you say its picking up. Probly going lean but hard to tell unless you check plugs after a few WOT runs or have a wideband
edit: looking at bin now

your timing table looks stock. WOT tuning could use more timing. Make that max value of 35 start at 3200 rpm and hold it all the way up. L98's like that. it may want 34 degrees total tho depends on the setup. try 32-36 or so
your fueling is stock too it seems up top. your gonna need to add PE enrichment i'm sure. i dont like the ARAP bin tho. its weird compared to others. i am using AUJL bin from my 89 L98. My 383 loves it so far with a few changes
your PE mode stuff is more based off of coolant temps instead of RPM like my bin is. i'd make the cooling stuff a low number or all zeros and add values to PE vs RPM. I like that better so you can adjust fuel over the whole rpm range. I guess you dont have to do that and still work Araps PE vs rpm table as is, but its whatever.

well i have aluminum heads so im wondering if i should add more timing up top or leave it where it is and raise the low spots in the high load 3k+ rpm region. also i just put the bin in afr tuner for the ae tuning so im going to try that and see how it comes out then add the spark after and see the difference.

Re: $6E ARAP tuning for 268H cam and heads help
i would most definately add spark in the 3000-4400 rpm ranges. your seeing 36 degrees total at 4800+ rpms while only like 24 in some mid range spots and 31 by 4400-4800.
i'd make all of those ranges 35 total or so from 3200 on up to 4800+. its called making total timing come in sooner, like how you do on a carb
I still think your running lean at WOT. you'll need to add more PE mode enrichment but hard to tell without a wideband
i'd go into PE enrichment % vs rpm and add 10% fuel from 3600 on up to 4500. ramp it up tho, start at 3600 and add maybe 5-6% to see how it does and add like 10% at 4000-4500 to see how it likes it. Add 15-20% by 5000.
thats only if its lean and only real way to tell is dyno it with wideband or street run it with a wideband, but you need the wideband

damn this sucks i just put it together and dont have the wideband. but ill try what you said and butt dyno it after. then after thats a rough tune feeling good ill go on the dyno and fine tune it. thanks for your help. and i already created a bin with more timing in those areas so i just have to burn it and stick it in the car. ill try that then ill do the ae fuel after that.

Re: $6E ARAP tuning for 268H cam and heads help
When you data log watch the injector ms vs rpm, max ve (peak torque) is max ms, then should taper off as rpms rise. also ms should spike right after shift, when load is high, drop a little till peak torque, then drop a little till next shift.
If you graph it, the injector ms should follow and look like the torque curve.
The zip files don't do well on TGO. Don't zip it just load it.

Take your file saved as .xls, .csv or .adl and add .txt, like (test.xls.txt), (test.csv.txt), or (test.adl.txt).
Then "Go Advanced" and attach to reply. To read "save" and just rename removing the .txt, go back to test.xls, test.csv, or test .adl
Try this file and let me know, it worked for me.

Re: $6E ARAP tuning for 268H cam and heads help
see that file didnt work for me. but i bet if i go on my mozilla firefox it would. but anyways i have another zip file of todays trials. i added 10% to my higher pe tables and added a bit more spark and i havent looked this last datalog over yet so idk much about it. the car is definately faster but it still feels lacking in power.

Re: $6E ARAP tuning for 268H cam and heads help
i have 3 new datalogs on the new tune i started. i used the AUJL like OR is and modded it to match the fueling tables of the arap except for pe. then i toyed with the spark tables to my liking. the car definately feels better on this tune and some of the little issues have gone away like cruising with no throttle surging is gone and such. either tomorrow or thurs im getting my wideband in the mail and it should be in by mid next week to finish up tuning. ill post my new datalogs and bin tomorrow when i have the files on this computer. BTW i looked at the pulse width count like pandin said and found out my peak torque is at 2400rpms.

Re: $6E ARAP tuning for 268H cam and heads help
actually screw the datalogs theyre crap. i just installed my wideband o2 today with the gauge and the 128=14.7 afr is way off or at least in my case. it turned out my pt afr was between high 10s and mid 11s. WOT was rediculous so much that the gauge wouldnt even read it because it was beyond 10 afr. now i have all the timing set and as i was working on fueling the car is getting a lot faster. i suggest a wideband for everyone tuning.

I may be able to provide you with a "starting point" bin for TunerProRT if you like. I ran a 268 cam for a while and invested quite a bit of time getting it to run right. Let me know if you want to look at it.

id love to see that bin to compare it to mine and test it out. i seem to be missing a lot of power and maybe youll have my answer for me as to where it is. thankyou.

Vipershark i must apologize for not posting my bin(s) earlier, master_mitch just pm'd me and i noticed I never responded to your request. So here they are, I am using $6E 24lb injectors, HSR, 58mm TB, and MAF sensor with no screen, vortec heads with 1.6 rockers and its a 355 cid.

Nedoss what type of Hp/Tq #'s are you running with that setup and tune???
I think we all wanna know....
I'm running alot of the same stuff (See Sig) and was looking for a place to start.
I haven't had a chance to hook up my autoprom yet as the car is still up on blocks in the garage, but I'm trying to learn as fast as I can.
When I went to the dyno (Vids and dyno sheets avail on TGO -Check "Goin to the dyno" Thread I believe) I had a A/F Ratio of like 15.5:1 WOT or leaner at times so I put the car away. Seems like everyone else is running rich????

you have to save the zip file to your computer, for some reason you cannot just "open" it.
give that a try
