ECM wont read changes
ECM wont read changes
Just added a HSR set up using a used 90-92 Speed Density set up on my 84 Monte Carlo. The car starts and runs and drives but runs rich. I have a Moates Auto Prom that a friend is helping me with. He can make changes on the chip, verify the changes on the chip. But when we plug the chip in with the Moates adaptor, no changes seem to be taking place with the car. Also, the car wont start with just the memcal in the ECM. But if we have the memcal hooked up to the adaptor with no chip in the adaptor it will start and run. What did we miss here? What ever changes we try to make on the chip the ECM some how is not seeing it.

Be sure you are using the correct offset on the chip.
The active program is positioned at the end of the chip address space.
Put the Memcal on the adapter in the right orientation and it should work.

To reiterate what JP mentioned about the MEMCAL. The orginal MEMCAL needs to be installed on the adapter. Otherwise things won't work correctly.

Original memcal is on the adaptor. Triple checked all connections according to Moate's website. Everything looks like it should. No bent pins, chip in correct position. Any other ideas? The car just sits till I can figure something out.

Then the ECM isn't running from the PROM. The SES should always do a blink off then on solid at key-on, engine-off. Otherwise it isn't worth turning the key to crank then engine (ECM is in limp mode).
Try the stock PROM in the G1 socket, see if that works. Then move on to burning/flashing PROMs. It needs to do the SES blink otherwise the ECM isn't running from the PROM.
Either the offsets are incorrect, the PROM is being inserted into the socket backwards (notch toward outside), wrong BIN being burned, PROM installed into burner incorrectly. Something. Can also try the stock MEMCAL in the stock ECM socket (remove adapter) and look for the SES blink. Then go from there.

Here is what I found. Stock memcal in ECM with no adaptor. SES light blinks and goes out in key on engine off position. Added adaptor, no chip with memcal, no light at all. Added chip holder to adaptor with chip in one direction. SES light stayed on with no blink. Turned chip around 180* and had no light at all. What now?

Re: ECM wont read changes
Tom sent his AutoProm to me to look at. Its an older AutoProm with the serial cable connection. I can get it to accept a new bin, and the SES light will blink. But when I try to make changes to the bin, the AutoProm will not react to the changes. I have emulation mode turned on. I have tried both TunerPRO RT and TunerCAT RT. I have to make the changes, save the bin, and then reload the bin into the AutoProm. It should not work like this, it should respond to be change right away, like my Ostrich does. Is this a bad AutoProm? I have an email into Moates last week, but have no heard a response back yet.
