Noob Question Willem Programmer?
Would this Willem Eprom Programmer work to burn my own chips for my 87 Pontiac Trans AM GTA?

What else would I need to program the eproms? Would I need a UV flasher or whatever it is called?

Re: Noob Question Willem Programmer?
Yes, that programmer will work, a bit finickey to work with, but will work.
Forget the UV eraser and get a MEMCAL adapter (moates.net G1) and some 27SF512 or similar EEPROM's.
The original EPROMS don't seem to take many erase and program cycles before they fail.
The EEPROM's also make tuning quicker since the erase procedure takes just a few seconds, instead of many minutes.

Re: Noob Question Willem Programmer?
So the Willem programmer will flash the chips? What about the software tuner RT? Thanks for the help. I didn't want to spend alot of money to program eproms for my gta.

Re: Noob Question Willem Programmer?
Yes, the Willem programmer will program a lot of different E/EPROM's.
Tuner Pro will only work directly with the Burn1/2. The Willem uses it's own program to interface with the hardware.

Re: Noob Question Willem Programmer?
What about the TunerCat program? I want to be able to change the settings in the bin file. But the tuner pro should be able to edit the bin file as well?

Re: Noob Question Willem Programmer?
I use a Willems True USB programmer, a GQ-3X, to program EEPROM's.
Save the bin in TP RT. Open the programmer software, then open the bin file that you want to program using the correct offset and then program the EEPROM.

Re: Noob Question Willem Programmer?
Is there a certain GQ-3x I should buy or just the basic version. Looks like a place in Canada sells them MCUmall or something similar to that. Man I'm getting confused now.

Re: Noob Question Willem Programmer?
For automotive applications you don't need all the adaptors, which is the difference between the packages. I bought the "light pack" IIRC, it was the cheapest version of the GQ-3X.
You might want to consider the Moates.net BURN2, since it will only do the basic automotive EEPROMs that you will be using.
It'll all make sense once you start into it.

Re: Noob Question Willem Programmer?
I use the Willem and Tunerpro RT. I just have to change programs to burn the new bin to the chip.
