Tuning spark

Is there a better way to tune spark? The majority of refrences I've found involve using the knock sensor to find your limit, then tuning back from there but that just seems nonsensical. One could use a g-tech meter or dyno to find what's going to give you the min best torq, but they're really only good for finding trends. I'm sure you could find what works best after about a 1000 passes down the 1/4 mile but who has the time for that? Or here's a thought- using steady state egt & oil temps to find ideal spark (once afr's are nailed down). So what's your method?

Re: Tuning spark

Ideally on a dyno BUT that is pricey. 2 runs for me was $100.

Using knock sensor is suggested as not the best way.

I believe highest MPH with a set % of TPS on level road is one thought. That would require repeating at every 10 MPH increments at set TPS. Would GPS we able to capture and save event? I dont believe 1/4 mile times would be of any value.

Re: Tuning spark

Better have an ostrich for something like that. Tuning fuel is so much easier- you just play marco polo with the afr you want. With spark there's no clear refrence to go off.
