94 S10 V8 swap... need help with my .bin file

I swapped a 383 v8 into my 94 s10. It has a very mild cam and holley projection intake with a 454 throttle body and injectors. Im trying to get the factory computer (7427) to work but im not the best when it comes to chip tuning... i know enough to get me by so i guess all im looking for is alittle direction from the prom gods on this forum.

i dont know much about the engine other than it was recently rebuilt and the cam has alittle bit of a lopey idle, but nothing to wild.

Like i said before, im using the holley intake and 454 TB and injectors.

I blocked off the EGR and i dont have any knock sensors
Other than that, everything else is hooked up as it was from the factory.

Im not sure what to do about the spark/fuel tables. I copied a base 5.7 spark and fuel table over to my factory 4.3 bin, it runs but its ideling rich and it dosent have as much power as it should. What do i have to do to eliminate the EGR in the computer? Also, is there anything i need to do besides change the injector size to accomodate the new intake and TB? Im getting a low map freq code and a ESC malfunction code too. Id like to get that all ironed out before i take the truck out and start tuning it with the wide band, so any help would be appreciated. Also, if there is anything else that you would recommend that i do, please let me know.

Thanks

What are you using for tuning?? Tunerpro/Tunercat etc?? If you open your bin you will beable to set the injector constants for your fuel pressure and current injectors. This will need to be done other wise it will run rich with the bb injectors. As for the EGR you will beable to turn of the the flags and switches as well as the EGR applications. >wrong wording but youll see what i mean when you start looking through the bin. Your going to get a low map code if you didnt change you map sensor from the 4.3 to the 5.7one as well as with that cam the ecm is going to think it is under load at idle, therefor adding fuel and not running right. Let us know what you are tuning with and whether or not you have datalogged it at all. Im sure someone else will reply. Best of luck

Im using tunerpro... havent done any data logging yet, just trying to get a good base tune down before i do any logging. I never thought of changing the MAP sensor... thought it would be the same as the 350 sensor. that could be the heart of all of my problems, im still using the 4.3 sensor. Would any v-8 MAP sensor work or does it need to be off of a 350? i know i have a few off of 305 camaros and caprices laying around somewhere. What do you think the ESC code is from? no knock sensors?

Im not sure 100% about the map sensors but the 305/350 ones are the same prt#'s I believe?? Some one else will reply im sure. If you dont have knock sensors hooked up then you may get a esc code because the ecm is looking for them to test knock. You need to get all your sensors hooked up and make sure you set your injector constants and turn of the egr setting etc. Once you do that you can start to tune etc. Just my thoughts hope it helps???

You should get a memcal from a 94 or 95 v-8. That is probably where the esc code is coming from. Using the v-6 memcal will probably keep your ks and limp mode from working correctly. It will also give you a better starting point.

Im using the memcal adapter from moates, im not using the factory memcal. I have a chip that i burnt all of the 4.3 specs onto, except for the spark and timing tables that i copied from a 350 chip.

To disable EGR just set the temp very high like 255deg.

As far as low MAP code I believe that lower parameter may be able to be changed in .bin. Not sure why the existing sensor wont work? I thought it was just a 5V devise? Maybe you test it to determine it is functional. If you datalog your should see what it is reading in volts or MAP.

Idleing rich? Maybe the BPC correction will help that.

I ran a V8 with a "calpack" from a V6 for a while. No code. But maybe calpack is different.

You may be abole to disable the knock sensor in .bin as well. Uncheck the malf flag. Or add one for your CID. Better idea.

Calculate the BPC and change it in bin. check this out http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/ben_...ctorsizing.xls

Even with the Moates adapter there are parts of the factory memcal that are still used. Best bet is to get a V8 memcal, hook up the knock sensor (4.3 used two sensors, V8 used one sensor), and use a V8 bin file. There are lots of stuff in the bin, that you can't see, that will be different between the V6 and V8. Do all of this and you'll have a much better starting point.

cool, thanks for the info... ill try to hunt a v8 memcal down, then ill go from there.

**UPDATE** Just bought a 350 TBI Memcal off of ebay, but its for a manual truck. Should beable to use it with a custom chip (for an automatic) though right? maybe just copy all of the transmission info off of the 4.3 chip onto the 350 .bin file, then burn it? Think that would be a good start???

That should work fine, just be sure that all of the flags/ switches are set correctly. Why not just start with a V8 auto bin?

BJYA, $0D, 1995, (C1, C2, K1, K2), TBI 5.7L V8(CAL), 4L60E, 7427.BIN
BJYM, $0D, 1995, C1, TBI 5.7L V8(FED), 4L60E, 7427.bin
BDWM, $0D, 1994, C1, TBI 5.7L V8(CAL), 4L60E, 8625.BIN

I have a couple posted on Moates.net, even a pretty radical one for a stock engine.

BJYN FWIW.
