Limit on injector size

Is there a limit for how much the ecm can handle even with changing the injector constant?
I'm running 36's and no matter how much help I get or how much I change, I just cannot eliminate an idle surge.

Do pw's get too small is basically my question.

Re: Limit on injector size

I wouldn't think you'd run into that problem, but I know it is possible. I'm using 95lb injectors on mine and they run at like 1% at idle, probably more accurate to say 1.3ms is open time. Can't really say much about idle surge though since my cam is so big anyway.

Re: Limit on injector size

This may help narrow it down.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...off-cured.html

Also check that the closed throttle SA table matches the main table values.
Try lowering the idle speed error tables too.
That can get SA jumping 5* or more. Lowering them can get you down to 2* movement or less while idling.

Re: Limit on injector size

Idle speed error tables?
My spark does jump around 5 degrees. Never understood that. Even when I made absolutely every spark table agree at 20deg.
Where are the tables? I'm not finding them by that name.

I'm running TPRT, with aujp wideband xdf. The bin is a modified Super aujpv3.

I'll be checking that link out shortly.

Re: Limit on injector size

Here is a link that shows the reactions nicely.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...k-advance.html

There are some values indicated as a guide that should calm down the SA.

This was from my bin running the 224/230 cam.
I lowered the reaction in the RPM error tables as shown below.
Stock on the AUJP was 4.92* in all cells but zero error
My Retard 1EB table
4.92 --200 rpm error
3.52 --150 rpm error
2.46 --100 rpm error
1.05 --50 rpm error
0.00 --0 rpm error

This table was filled with 4.92* in all cells (Including zero error)
My Advance 1F0 table
4.92 --200 rpm error
3.52 --150 rpm error
2.46 --100 rpm error
1.76 -- 50 rpm error
1.05 -- 0 rpm error

Re: Limit on injector size

You may need to lower your min and default injector pulse width. Check and see if you are trying to run at or below 1.59 ms at idle.

Re: Limit on injector size

The car is trying to run between 1.35 and 1.9. Bounces in between.
I just looked through my datalogger and couldn't find any references to default or minimum injector pw.
Is it named something different?

Re: Limit on injector size

It wouldn't be in the data log, it would be in the bin. I use arap bin so I can't be more specific.

Re: Limit on injector size

There is certainly a point at which injectors fail to work properly. Injector pintles have mass, and take a certain amount of time to open. There is a point when the pulsewidth is below the minimum amount of time the injector takes to open in the first place.

Re: Limit on injector size

I'm using saujpv2 with aujpwb xdf. Couldn't find it in there.

Toehead - what is that point?

Re: Limit on injector size

What Toehead is talking about is when the injector time is long enough to open the injector to flow fuel, under which you get no fuel and over way too much fuel.

Does your idle smooth out at some higher rpm and stall at some lower rpm, you maybe at the transition point between fuel and no fuel and you will have very little control.

Re: Limit on injector size

On occasion it has a surge while cruising. Minor annoyance. Usually though it's smooth except at idle in neutral or idle in gear.
I took out some fuel globally by upping the injector constant to 40 as a test and found that it surges faster.
It surges less at 36 and even less if I drop the distributor SA down to say 2. The manual setting is 8.
I've been all over the SA tables and have not come up with an answer. Same goes for playing with the IAC error tables. I've massaged my fuel tables so much that they're no longer recognizable.

This is why i'm wondering if the injectors are just too big for the ECM.

Re: Limit on injector size

I would try a pound or two below 36# and see if it is better. As you lower the injector constant everything should be getting richer, BLM's should be dropping below 128, at cruise speed.

If lower helps then go back to 36# and lower, (I believe) "to richen", the map values at idle and low cruise. If your BLM's are okay at cruise 128 then just leave it below 36#.
