Started Datalogging but then didn't connect...

Last night I finally got the AutoProm to work on my 86 TPI (1227165).

After about 5665 lines of recording it stopped... SO I figured that the file was full so I created a new log file to record... But then I closed Tuner Pro and then re-opened it and all of a sudden it could not connect to the ALDL port... Strange... I kept the car running the whole time if that makes any difference... I DID manage to gather about 10-15 minutes of data which was fun and very informative! (So far I saw that my TPS voltage is all messed up lol)

Anyways, I tried playing with the two switches on the back of the autoprom and still nothing... Restarting computer.. Nothing... I have the outermost switch facing out and the inner most switch facing inwards..

The AutoProm was only connected to the laptop and the ALDL port.

Any idea why I couldn't get it to work after that?

Thanks!

Re-check the COM settings. Every once in a while mine will reset. I'm not using AutoProm though just TPRT. Were you able to emulate during this or did it loose all communication?

Just for the people that might be able to help more you may want to post up the version your using and any other info you can provide.

I was using Tuner Pro RT 4.14 (latest build) and the laptop is a brand new Sony with Windows Vista. I was using COM4 as a port and it would detect the ALDL cable at first but then once it stopped recording it wouldn't see the cable anymore...

also, i did not emulate yet i was not hooked up to the car's computer, only through the ALDL port.

Im thinking maybe it's the ALDL port?

Re: Started Datalogging but then didn't connect...

I have this same identical problem. Using Tunerpro, windows XP, and set up on COM6. I haven't found a permanent solution yet. I have to unplug the ALDL, shut down and restart the computer, start the car, plug the aldl back in, then open Tunerpro and click connect. Sometimes I have to click connect a couple of times till it goes. But once the connection is lost the only fix I've found so far is what I listed, and it has to be done in that order.

Also, when I'm done datalogging, if I just shut the car off the connection is lost and I'll have to shut down the computer and go through the above steps to reconnect should I want to. If I click stop, enter a comment and click ok, then click disconnect all works fine. Then if I want to reconnect all I need to do is start the car, plug back in and click connect and it will work.

As a side note, FYI, when you are ready to make another datalog make sure you create another new file with a different name so you don't overwrite your old one with the new one. Several times I've forgotten and lost a good datalog. Other times it added the new one to the end of the old one. Not sure why, but I now got in the habit of just making a new file for each run.

Okay I will try that next time it's sunny (probly thursday!)

Sounds like a ALDL flaw? Or maybe the way USB ports work? Shutting things down before "properly" disconnecting them may result in problems with devices... Probably what this problem is... So as long as we select to disconnect it everytime it should be okay i guess?...

Selecting to disconnect is the way to go if you are done and ready to disconnect, but when it disconnects itself we don't have much choice. I'd like to find a permanent solution to the problem, hopefully someone has and will share it with us.

Re: Started Datalogging but then didn't connect...

One thing to try. Disable the laptop's ability to turn off power to the USB ports for power savings. In Windows XP, right click "computer", click Device Manager, expand the "Universal Serial Bus Contollers" icon, right click one of the "USB Root Hub" icons and seleck power management. Unclick the power saving box. This has not worked for me, but I didn't know the laptop could cut off the USB ports to save power.

If I datalog on battery power alone, I only get about 150/200 samples before a lock up. If I plug the laptop in, I can get about 500 samples before a lock up. This won't really work while driving (unless maybe you plug into an inverter).

I might try one of the two headed USB cables (y-cable) that allow power to come from two USB ports (2 x 500mA @ 5V).

Also, see the end of this post for the 47pF capacitor fix.

Re: Started Datalogging but then didn't connect...

i will definitely try that.

i managed to record around 5665 samples from a 15 minute run and i recorded the whole thing.. Not sure of what exactly i'm suposed to analyze but i noticed my TPS was at 0.59 volts and when i floored it it went no higher than 3.70 to 3.90 volts. So i got myself a new TPS sensor and i hope it will be good.. idle at 0.54 and full throttle at 4.30..

anyways that's off topic but yes i think maybe giving the laptop a source of power might fix it? I'll try possibly plugging it into the lighter for power.

thnx!

Attach your datalog to a post in this thread and we can look at it. Others on here are much better than I but I'll look at it and see if anything looks awry. Are you having any problems or is it running good? What is your setup?

Some of the TPS sensors only seem to go that high, which is high enough to put you in PE mode. As long as the throttle blades are opening the whole way it should be fine. Mine only sees about 4.1 volts at wot.

oh well i might as well install it anyways! Hopefully it will correct those numbers.. also, that long run i feel is a bit too long i will try to get a good one with less dilly dallying.. and starting from a cold start and getting it running.. i used a 1/4 tank of gas to get it finally work lol

i'll get it done this weekend

thnx!
