870 ecm, wondering if prom is "OTP"
i recently acquired an 85 camaro. it has the original computer. it has a 350 with flat top pistons, a computer friendly crane cam, 2400 stall, crappy stock 305 heads, which is a little excessive on compression but does not ping on 93. the problem is that when i first start it and roll out, it has immense power as compared to what it has 5 minutes later. in other words power drops off as soon as it warms up a little. but even if i shut it off for a few min, and start and go that power is back for just a minute or two. just now i pulled the computer and brought it in. i bought o pocket programmer and eraser when i bought the car knowing i would have to dive into prom tuning. i pulled the prom and it says delco 32500 e5012P i believe the p means it is a one time programmable, is that true. it is a reman by gm computer. i dont want to upgrade the ecm at this point. if it is a otp where are proms available b/c i havent found a source.

I haven't seen any original MEMCALs equipped with EEPROMs (Electroically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory). Most use an EPROM that requires UV light to erase, and you may not be able to program it a seocnd time, or very many times. They seem to have a questionable reprogramming cycle.

Have you looked under the silver label for a window? Unless the PROM has been recently replaced I would expect it to be an EPROM.
A OTP PROM will be in a plastic package. If it is ceramic such as the picture of the PROM you linked, it is eraseable.

in the picture you linked to in post #4, the removable chip on the right is the resistor network calibration, or CALPAK. its used for cold start cranking and limp home.
the chip on the left is the PROM.

The PROM you need is this one:
27C32 32K 150ns CMOS EPROM
Although it can be as slow as 450 nsec and work.
