Need a video tutorial b/c I'm dumb...

I live overseas in Germany about to be Italy and my car needs a tune. There are no tuners around that I know of here. I have a rebuilt engine fairly modified and need a tune. I had a chip/memcal designed by TPIS ($575) and just isn't really right. So after reading Triaxons tutorial I understand very little. What I would like is if someone could make a video or how to do a custom tune. I know it's gonna take trial and error but there are so many things that I have no idea what they are, (ie: what is VE, AE, PE, and how they corrolate to spark timing table ect.) I know that advancing the spark requires more fuel and spark knock is BAD. But that is about it, don't really know how every thing works. The car is a 1990 SD setup with 730 ECM.

Sorry but I'm mechanical inclined but when it comes to this tuning and the software side, I'm dumb

some info here in support. http://tunerpro.net/

Number 1 you need to start with datalogging. you need a cable. See craigmoates.com for cable.

Another datalogging program winaldl.joby.se

I've got a aldl cable and i've datalogged b/f using TTS datamaster b/c tunerpro rt wouldn't let me create a log file. i posted my log on here in the thread labeled "can someone take a look at my datalog" I just opened up the $8 xdf and a ramdom bin ANZA to look at the stuff and there is SO much stuff that is changable. When changing one thing, ie: spark advance main, does that auto change the rest of the tables to compensate for it or do you need to edit all blocks of a certain table.

if you can't connect with TunerPro, look at post #14 here,
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...t-wnought.html

if your just using an ALDL cable, you should be able to set up TunerPro to work by using the instructions for using the AutoProm in pass thru mode.

if you can connect and see data with TunerPro, but just can't seem to save a data log, look at post #6 here,
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...t-datalog.html

you have to edit each cell individually.

Re: Need a video tutorial b/c I'm dumb...

So i took a datalog today just driving around in a parking lot (car doesn't have tags on it yet) and i could tell there is a slight hesitation in the lower rpm range be then it will pick up after that.

so i download the aujp bin from moates to look how a bin is setup and i have questions regarding the table information.
1. why is it on the main spark table that some numbers increase as rpm and map increase but others decrease as these rise?
2. i don't understand how the timing works. all i know is as the fuel is increased, the timing should increase as i'm being told.

honestly if someone could make a video of how this stuff works, i would GREATLY appreciate it. i just don't understand this terminology .

Re: Need a video tutorial b/c I'm dumb...

i took a datalog and my BLM are all at 108 for my lower rpm ranges. The only time I see them go to 128 is when the kPa is in the 80-100 ranges and I think that is b/c it's going into PE mode b/c the INT is also steady at 128 as well. So would decreasing my VE ables at the other ranges correct this problem or is it possible its a mechanical problem such as too much FP or vac leak? I've used starting fluid around all my vac connections, manifold, TB and no increase in RPM.

Is there a way to look at the BIN that is already in my chip I received from TPIS to see what parameters are there. I don't have any burning equipment but can you view it from the Aldl port. I've included my datalog and would like some opinions and help decifering the information. One is with Tuner Pro and the other is with TTS datamaster.

Re: Need a video tutorial b/c I'm dumb...

I have read that you only want to tune when in open loop mode, why is that? Again when I look at my BLM, they are at 108 when in closed loop mode also. I thought that the o2 sensor compensates for the richness and decreases the BPW. Under light accelaration i feel a hesitation but when the RPM rise more with more throttle, it goes away. Is that b/c I'm in PE mode? Does this sound like a tuning issue or a componet issue? Again came someone take a look at my data logs and tell me whats going on? Thanks

Re: Need a video tutorial b/c I'm dumb...

You can read the BIN out using the old Moates DOS program ECM542. That may not be the exact name of the program, I just looked to see what it is and can't find it. It does start with "ECM", then 3 digits.

If you don't have burning equipment then I'm not sure what difference it makes. Because you can't tune it anyway.

The BLMs at 108 means that it is very rich and the ECM is pulling a lot of fuel out. Needs tuning.

Unless you have a WB and a way of data logging it along with the RPM & load value (MAP), then you can't tune in open loop. Better when starting out to use the BLM values when in closed loop. There are actually a couple of programs for $8D to do VE work for you from a data log.

I can't view the data logs unless they are in text, or even better a CSV format.

RBob.

Is this maybe the file format then, I don't know how to put to CSV.
