L98 What Eproms can be used
L98 What Eproms can be used
Hello, when using a removable Flash chip and Moats adapter in a 90 speed density L98, how close does one need to be with the original Eprom? Are there easier to find substitutes ?
Correct me if I am wrong, the Eprom in this application is only doing knock sensor related and limp mode functions?
Thanks, Gerry

The EPROM is also part of the MEMCAL but is bypassed using a Moates adapter so your chip is used. The EPROM has the entire operating code on it to run the engine. Anything in there can be changed by burning a new chip the other items are not easily changed.
You should start with a V8 MEMCAL of the right displacement if possible so the chip resistors are close (you might make it home in limp) but if you have alot of mods it doesn't work well. The knock sensor and filters work together so the wrong displacement MEMCAL doesn't work well with the wrong knock sensor. Try to keep the setup matched for best results.
Using the V6 MEMCAL can be done but the limp settings will be worse and the knock stuff as well.
